Just to understand where you are.

Is the route already saved in a file? What type of file is it?

it is someone elses existing route on viewranger.

i can view it and i can access it on the phone to follow it

i cannot "save" it , export it or edit it

i would like to save as gpx so i can edit it slightly and then share with a mate before we ride it.

For a shared route on VR, when you select the route initially, there is normally a 'Download route' option.

On the signpost button top left, chose your area, then select an icon representing a route Screenshot_20201016-090908~2.png

some you have to purchase, some are free to download, it depends on who shared itScreenshot_20201016-090929~2.png

. but there is a download option.

Even if you download a route in the App, I'm not sure you can sync or export it back to your PC because you're not the author of the route.

I've never tried what you're doing, and I'm not near my PC to try at the mo.

Yes, It seems you cannot get the actual .gpx from the webpage.

I've tried creating a route in VR, but I didn't find it user friendly, so I've always createdroutes in MM and save as .gpx.

It is possible to edit/extend it......

download then click 3 dots top right and show on map.

then press on route and you should have option to edit.

From memory, I thought that only edited the title. So it edits the actual route too?

I don't plan routes on VR, only follow routes and record tracks. But I've just logged into my online account, chosen a free shared route, and there is a 'Menu' option to 'Export to gpx' Therefore I can download and edit it.

Not sure if you can do this with your chosen route or not Roger.

export to gpx.JPG

thanks JT that does allow me to edit the route but only on the phone and not on the website.

but it does not allow me to save it other than a modified copy on my phone :(

just seems to be an extra layer of protection on this routes somehow.

You have to get the route once you have the option to export as GPX should appear....
