Always fancied a Montesa 4RT after having a go on one a few years back......but not really very practical for me. My trail riding has changed now and enjoying shorter more local trips alone so thinking about a 4 Ride. Anyone want to swap a very clean low hours 2009 KTM 250 EXC/know of any for sale?

I Have a 4ride and would not sell it i know thats of no help to you but i would say its a cracking bike and will do anything the 4RT will do and give you a seat to rest your ass on as us older riders need.

Nice bike only Engine mod worth doing is a decat front pipe they pop up 2nd hand on ebay from time to time. I have all the bit's to swap between 4ride and turning it into a 4RT after a bit of shopping on Ebay over the last year. Hope you Have fun with it
Looks like a full 4rt tail pipe as well there is no mount's on it for the 4Ride pipe cover and the move back gear shift i find two 750ml round fuel bottles with all the tools you need nice under the seat i have stuck with the low front guard and had no problems with mud sticking wheel and guard. I have found it to be an ideal solo trip out bike as you can near pick the thing up and carry it stuck you can chuck it in to as technical lane as you like and to the riders skill it will come out the end at a very very slow safe pace

That looks superb! Enjoy the new bike when we are able to get out riding again. Something to look forward to! There are a few clips on YouTube which show the full potential of the bike subject to rider skill if course.
On the back of another thread. I can see that the Montesa 4RT does look like an outdated and complicated version of a Sur Ron electric on and off road moped. Progress

The difference being for the 4 ride the rules are understood, it makes a far better noise and I wont have to stop and wait several hours for a recharge because the battery runs flat

Fair points albeit i think the rules are understood ref e-bikes but simply not being applied / bit like lockdown rules for some. My view is that the technology for battery powered "stuff" is developing and accelerating at a tremendous pace which together with the limited amount of physical components required for an e-bike in comparison to an internal combustion engine (ICE) will actually make ICE redundant in <15 years perhaps 10... Enjoy the 4RT looks like a fine example of the machine
I still think that battery technology has a long way to go, especially as far as the environment is concerned. I'm talking about finding rare and finite resources of minerals to make batteries, the fact that charging a battery is a slow and inefficient process, at the moment we are only moving the pollution away from the cities and over to the power stations (gas, nuclear etc). There's also the problem of what happens when an electric vehicle catches fire. Best advice: keep well away and let it burn out.
I think a better answer is something like renewable fuel, methanol maybe?
If you think no more piston engines after 2040, probably not.
Well I still haven't been able to test properly yet due to lockdown but I have been doing circuits of the garden and made one essential trip via tarmac......
Extremely light and nimble, knack to starting but once I got the hang of it I can now start from cold in one kick. Got all the kit from my rucksack in the space under the seat inc 1.5l of fuel (why didn't they make the bloody tank bigger) as its only got a 4.4 l tank - still I should be good for 60 miles plus now I think.
Nice low down grunt, this one has a 4RT pipe so cat removed - not sure if its had the 'full power' mod - but whatever its fine as it is and gearing seems fine (was changed by pervious owner) as it will pop along quite happily at 45mph on the tarmac (probably go quite a bit quicker but 45 on maxiss trailmax with 6-8 PSI is quite fast enough thank you)
Its got the S3 gear shift and that's great as its by my toe not 6 inches away.
Air box low so no deep river crossings on this one...
FI is nice - very smooth.
Tubless rear rim - hence I'm being brave with tyre pressure as not as scared about plugging a tyre as I am about fitting a tube
Oil filter change looks to be a PITA as entire gen side cover has to come off and filter is tucked behind flywheel :-/
It sounds bloody lovely - especially when its 'pulling hard'
Bike looks stunning, is beautifully put together and as such its a joy to look at and own - will report further after the 29th when Boris says I can go and play!

Well yesterday I got to try Monty out properly for the first time. What a machine ! - Much better in the muddy stuff than I expected and made the flinty climbs out east a doddle. It was nice to chug around looking at the views rather than hold on for grim death....
Really got the hang of starting it now and can normally get it to fire up on the first gentle prod, fuel not as much as an issue as I thought and got 50+ miles out the tank so recon my 2l of spare fuel would get me another 30 - so around 80 in total.
The Maxxis trail max tyres were excellent so pleased with that choice - though dont think the rear is going to last very long, but boy does it grip !
So other than avoiding deep water due to low air box I think I have found my perfect little mechanised rambling machine

Thanks for that write up, seriously considering one for 2021
Well I can highly recommend it - probably not for everyone and needs a few mods - S3 gear shift to put put lever where you need it and gearing change (think mine is 11/36 now) - but I love it, possibly a modern day XR200? (Ill get me coat)

My laning 'weapon of choice' is a XR400 still (had all manner of modern bikes, like KTM 500/400 and a new reverse cylinder WR250 in recent years) as it just does the lanes and roadwork so well
Thinking of a 4Ride to compliment the stable, especially for those days on technical lanes, when the XR400 can be a handful
