As mentioned at February's meeting I was chatting to a neighbourhood policing officer back in January, making some inroads to policing with a shared knowledge aspect
Very positive outcome from the PCSO in Honiton, so much so he's expanded this to his fellow colleagues in the service and has contacted some of Devon's finest in Bovey
They are happy to attend March's meeting at the Dolphin to discuss various topics...........Which are?? Ideas on all things trail riding related
I've noted a few ideas, thoughts on those if you wish to be discussed or not, add other ideas if you wish or change ideas....
There is a selection of officers who should be available so we might catch more than one in attending
Afternoon Paul (PCSO)
Yes it was agreed at last weeks meeting of the DTRF to welcome you to the meeting with discussions on various topics undecided as of yet
Ill be posting some items on our open forum for ideas on what to discuss.
1. Bike security for me, alarms, trackers, etc
2. Police and their presence on going forward with countryside policing
3. Bike theft from houses, garages, premises (this has increased dramatically in recent months
4. Farm theft and what the TRF can do to help, keeping our eyes open whilst traversing the green road network
5. Knowledge to the police on where we ride, rights of way, do the police have enough substantial knowledge of the Devon (country wide) network of legal green roads?
6. How many warnings do you have before your bike gets crushed??
Any ideas for discussion form the Police's point of view? In 2021 it was noticed there were trail bike checks at Kilmington in East Devon, for legal bikes and riders
Can we report in ANGRY users on Green roads to the police, dog walkers are the favourite to complain about bikes in the countryside.
Education in both directions is KEY!
Many thanks Paul
Look forward to your reply
Kindest Regards
Ian Collins

Just writing a return email to the PCSO's about this idea/meeting, exchanging information, education for both groups
There's knob all interest on here a few positives at Feb's meeting, the police are keener than trail riders they are keen to know/learn the legal green roads and what to look for on a map
Have not said much about the PSCO meet as I might not be there. Have lost confidence in our police forces. What I would like is a Officer from the traffic dept to be there !

I've recently spoken to PC Orchard ahead of the Stokeinteignhead meeting. He is aware that PCSO Wilson has been tasked to deal with complaints in the Drewsteignton area of off-piste 'bikers' and mountain biking on the footpaths in the woods.
When the public report 'problems with off roaders' to the Police, if it's not considered an immediate risk to the public, the report will be passed to the local neighbourhood policing team to deal with when they have time, which will be a Community Beat Manager such as PC Orchard, or more likely to a PCSO, such as PCSO Wilson. It's highly unlikely to be brought to the attention of any of the handful of Traffic officers.
I can find no mention of such reports going back over many months of the Parish minutes, so I'm not sure how big a 'problem' it is.
Unfortunately the NMB and PCSO, or even Traffic officers, don't get any input during training of the ROW network, they have to pick it up as they go along unless they take up a role in the Wildlife Crime Unit. Hopefully PCSO Wilson will leave the meeting with an understanding of what the TRF do, and can't do,
If the local police have our overlay they will immediately be able to distinguish between valid complaints about off roaders riding illegally and NIMBYism complaining about trail riders using legal highways. The latter was used to deny us use of Hillier lane in Combeinteignhead, by a retired police officer who knew how to use the system.

I'm probably in too deep to call this off!
Lets see how it goes.....
I think its a great idea and will make every effort to attend bud. Cant add anything to the list that you have not covered hence no comment thus far

Really appreciate the support
Its only a list of things from the top of me head happy to alter the list of contents if its sensible alterations
A few years ago I did update the maps for the police in my local East Devon area. When dealing with a problem caused by Clinton Devon estates. Happy to help if you need me.
