Ride-out posts

Seems people aren't very interested in rides posted these days despite joining and asking when the next rides are. Ive posted 2 and zero responses?

Just wondering why this is?

Maybe.

Too hot

Working

School holidays

On holiday

Bike broken

Or all if the above.

Could be any one of those or all Mike.  I would have liked a trundle on Friday but it was far too hot for me.

Dont give up asking though, I remember my first ride out with the TRF, organised on here....

It was with your good self out from Oakhampton on the outfit, and was a great day.

cheers Trevor

Historically this is the lean time when less rides happen, mostly because of the heat, but over grown lanes and school holidays with families to entertain get in the way too.
I love to ride in winter when riding keeps me warm and will not be posting any rides at least until it cools down, a lot.

I have had no takers either for e-mtb rides either which is a shame as it is lovely out there and I have been on some epic rides recently combining wild swimming and riding.

Back in the day it was necessary to put limits on numbers but perhaps the advent of handlebar mounted mapping technology has rendered run leaders somewhat obsolete.

Keep posting though as the rides are the life blood of the group.

The time of year plays a big part here as it's far more pleasant to ride through a muddy lane in the cool of winter than battle through one overgrown with brambles while feeling like a boil in the bag fish supper.

But no matter when or how few please keep submitting run sheets / track logs (to: johnleah@blueyonder.co.uk ) as I'm getting precious few these days.

Cheers,
John

I actually went out on road bike 7am on Friday and found it too hot after 10, got home at 12.

Main reason for not green Laning is the dust for the following guys.

I would love to go out but Saturday or Sunday? Based near Newton Abbot. Anyone thinking of going out?

I have been waiting for things to cool down somewhat.

I went out yesterday for the first time in weeks on my e-mtb as we seemed to now be in a different weather pattern.
Ended up doing 3.5 hours in and around the Teign Gorge, including sheltering under trees near Steps Bridge as thunder rain fell.
Today looks like a good day too, kinda dull n damp.

Have been out quite a few times lately but much prefer riding alone these days - and I think as Pete suggests the easy access to lane info and GPS devices to put that on means folks dont need leading now.

Having easy access is great if you know what your doing JT.  Being lead for the first few runs is still important especially as the knowledge 'old hands' have can be passed on.

I hope the run leaders on here who have lead in the past don't stop.

I respect a desire to ride alone when the fancy takes you is a lovely thing to do, I often go out for a quick trundle when I have a couple of hours spare.

Passing on the knowledge that has been built up over the years is a privalidge when you share in someones joys at doing something for the first time.

Oh I fully agree that being led to start and gaining that knowledge is very important (why myself and Doug used to do so many runs/shared knowledge days). Its also why I firmly believed that the lane info should not be freely available (and I am not keen on the TET) - but its all out there now and as I say its why I dont think runs are well subscribed anymore.

Anyway touchy subject and I know many disagree so will leave it there

Hi Mike, sorry I did see that you were looking to go out on Fridays much earlier in the year and would definitely be interested but I have struggled a bit to get to grips with the website and find who is riding when. Fully admit that I am far from capable as regards IT stuff so undoubtedly its my fault. Just out of interest is there any way of getting Devon TRF on facebook as again I cannot do it. Any help would be much appreciated . Cheers Pat
