So after the last update I moved onto Laos the forum doesn't work there so no updates but only did a few DIY bike routes on little honda wave semi autos. Stopping off at caves and waterfalls.
Now I'm in Cambodia and been waiting for this as they have a much better selection of bikes in this country and we decided to use the Yamaha wr250. Which my one was the guides main race bike.
The guide was called aki and runs a company called Cambodia trail off road tour if anyone finds themselves in siem reap certainly go with these guys. They run anything from 1 to 10 day tours if you want. He's absolutely mad but will cater for any ability.
Unfortunately after covid it hasn't picked up and we were his first group In a long time! He was building his house then lockdown hit. He had 18 bikes and had to slowly sell them to fund the build he only has 6 bikes at the moment but can hire more if needed.
Mostly quite flat but lots of twists and turn on sand which I hadn't experienced before. Put weight back and try not to dip the throttle to much else the front end goes all over.
Did some jungle riding aswell also very sandy. Had a well needed dip in the waterfall after lunch. Also road and stopped next to a old temple.
Then I had a go on the Yamaha 450 don't think I left second gear in the sand far to much power for that tight turning sand. So when we had drink break swapped back.
Brilliant day all in all there was me my,cousin and one other guy Columbian/Australian guy and the tail end Jett who wasnt as mad as aki but was brilliant.
One reason was halfway through the day the tour guide got a puncture so when we had drink stop Jett set straight to getting it sorted aki took his bike and allowed us to not waste time and carry on he then caught up with us at lunchtime.
After we finished chilled with some beers I expect they would have let us stay all evening but we had to get back to town to meet the others for dinner.
One thing is there's nothing like riding your own bike getting used to a different bike takes time I expect if I used it for a few days would feel alot more normal. But still managed ok
Yes it's been great wish I did the trip in south Cambodia as that looked a bit better terrain. But still great. I have just posted some videos on the Facebook page of new Zealand riding in sand dunes. Now that is an experience.
