Commute from Tavira on the N2 back up North - day 1
A leisurely morning was had at the Hotel Gala Tavira after completing the ACT route. A lovely breakfast then a stroll to the mall in an attempt to get a new GoPro case for Jules GoPro but they didn't have any in stock. Never mind, it was nice to stretch the legs (off the bikes!)
We set off at 12:30 and hit the N2 Route Nationale which is apparently the longest stretch of continuous road in Europe. It took us on lovely winding roads initially then there was lots of evidence of Roman invasion as the roads were dead straight for miles and miles. We passed through many small towns - not as small as when we were up in the mountains on the ACT route - and stopped for a drink and something to eat around 1pm. We cracked on to Montemor-o-Novo where we stopped for fuel and searched for accommodation for the night whist having some snacks and drinks in the cafe attached to the fuel station. We located a hotel about 45mins away, about 7km west of Mora in a place called Couco. It was out of town but had a restaurant a bar and leisure facilities so we booked it. Upon arrival its like an eco ranch catering for all things outdoors including watersports at the local lake. The TV behind reception even showed a group of people on KTM adventure bikes so needless to say when we rocked up we were welcomed with open arms.
A quick dip in the pool before dinner at 8:30 and a plan to use the sauna, steam room and indoor pool tomorrow before breakfast then we hit the road again for our continued commute back towards Pomferrada and the Pico's.
