Grey wire mod.

Have a look at ThumperTalk, lots of talk about it there. I was under the impression if it's a UK bike (like mine) you don't need to do it, but I stand to be corrected.

Thanks Hoops. I've been on Thumper Talk, (good refernce site) and was getting slightly confussed to whether it was just for US bikes or UK bikes aswell. Could not seem to find reference to UK bikes........Hmmm

Thought with the amount of members we have someone (blue corner) may of done it or know whether or not it's needed. (suppose I could ring dealer and ask !!)

Mines cut (450). It makes the bike more aggresive and rev higher before the cut out point, Makes quite a difference as it's the YZ map as opposed to the WR one.

However, mine was a euro import.

Worth doing, makes the WR450 almost as powerful as a 250KTM. biggrin

all the mods to my ally frame 2007 250f grey wire air box throttle sensor and engine breather pipes exhaust pipe opened up were all done before i got it and having ridden a non moded one i can say do them all asap you will notice the difference makes a brilliant bike better

Just doing a bit of Googling on WR250 stuff and this thread popped up! Can anyone say for sure whether this can be done or makes a difference to UK psec WRs?

Just did it to Nic (slipalong)'s bike. Easy as poo to do and Nic reckons it's made a worthwhile difference.

Give it a try Martin, it's so easy and has no negative effects so you may as well.

Report back in ten minutes when you've done it.

Surely on the KTM 250 you cut the orange wire to the kill switch ?

Yours is the steel framed bike - yes? If so, the grey wire is up by the headstock on the right hand side, going into a 6 wire multi plug.

If it's an alli framed one, its behind the lhs number board at the rear of the bike.

Get it done, it gives you an extra thousand revs to play with and makes it more agressive from about 6000 onwards.

dont forget !!!!!! throttle stop mod 16mm off the length? and airbox mod [opened up ?] i understand replaceing silencer can make it a bit noisey but if you have any spare pennies FMF power bomb is a good mod ? lost :

Yep I've had the list of free mods from TT for some time, however it isn't clear (to me anyway) that the UK bike needs all or some of them. The airbox has been done, summit done to jetting too. Not interested in making it any louder. Will see if I have a grey wire this weekend as I have to take the airbox off to clean it so may as well do it all in one hit.

OK, grey wire disconnected today (not cut) and the hole left in the connector plugged to stop water getting in. Went for quick jaunt up the road just to make sure everything still works, can't tell yet if it's made any difference, next proper ride will tell I guess! Hardest part was pulling apart the connector where all the wires went - completely caked in silt outside, totally clean inside. Remember kids, dropping your bike underwater isn't good
