Did a ride with Greg (GREGORYPEECK) today and half way through our epic outting we were both disapointed to find that 'The Hound of The Basket Meals' wasn't at Houndtor today! I suppose it's possibly now out of seaon for them and less customers mean it isn't worth their while being there now...

We carried on into Widecombe and stumbled across, what i thought was the car park warden's shed, but it turned out to be an excellent little cafe with hot pasties, burgers, and decent tea, cakes etc! Highly recommended and quite reasonable too!

It's right in the centre of Widecombe on the right hand side, just before the car park at the back of the Old Inn pub which is on the left.

Made an excellent rest stop before heading onto 191-084

You had a lucky escape at Houndtor. Last time I ate there I spent the next couple of days throwing up. Alan Smith no longer does the catering and the ladies who boil burgers deserve to be eaten by the Hound. Avoid unless you have a very strong constitution or like having the ****s and throwing up. Drawing a smiley face on a burger with ketchup doesn't make up for poor cuisine.

The Widecombe car park shed cafe is brilliant and highly recommended. Choice of several types of tea. Excellent Earl Grey. Home made cakes. All food freshly cooked, no boiled burgers there. Only worry is that the little old lady may not be with us for many more years. Excellent value and service with a smile.

The Beachcomber bisto, the strand, shaldon for the south devonish list.

Excellent little cafe right at the end of the row of fooderies with the best view of T'Mouth from the terrace.

The italien geezer who runs things loves the trf guys visiting and dont mind dirty boots.

SOUTH DEVON

The snack wagon at the bike garage between Modbury and Averton Gifford does a proper mug of tea and a good breakfast roll.

Haldon Cafe at the top of Telegraph Hill (closes 2pm)

The snack wagon on Brunel Estate, Newton Abbot (closes about 2pm, not open weekends)

The cafe on Brunel estate, Newton Abbot (open later than the snack wagon)

Various cafes and pasty shops at Trago (bike parking near main entrance) Maybe buy a pasty and take it to Stover park to eat it.

Numerous snack wagons and a couple of cafes at Marsh Barton industrial estate, Exeter.

All the big supermarkets have cafes but best avoid if too muddy.

Cafe and food outlets at Fermoy's Garden Centre near Ipplepen.

Fish and Chip shops at all the coast towns.

South Devon

Dartmouth :

Rockfish : Premium gourment fish and chips takeaway, amazing! Located opposite the slipway for the lower ferry. Park up nearby and find a free bench on the waters edge.

M & S Simply Food : Premium quality food! Recommend buying a picnic from here and then riding a short distance to park up by the waters edge, its a great spot with great food!

Ashburton :

Pear Tree Service Station (Garage) : Good stop between lanes to fuel up and a good selection of hot and cold food, coffee etc.

A lucky find yesterday! The hall at S Tawton was open and served some very nice cakes to go with their freshly brewed teas and coffees. Seems that they are doing it most Sundays so keep your eyes peeled. Situated just a few yards from the east end of 191-045 wink

2011 10 16 - 10.jpg

Zukis cafe at Winkleigh was open and did a superb chicken kebab and chips for lunch - also recommended! Didn't mind us trailing mud in to sit inside. Located here http://maps.google.com/?ll=50.85660261,-3.94574361&spn=0.01060490,0.02222064&t=k&om=0

Taverners Farm Shop at Kennford

Maybe not the most obvious food stop but if anyone has been to Taverners Farm Shop and tried their food and ice cream then I am sure they will support me submitting them for consideration.

Cold pasties etc from the shop or order from the restaurant and sit outside. Finish with an ice cream for dessert - one of the best that I have tasted and rivalling Budleigh Salterton's town centre ice cream parlour biggrin

If you want a diversion for some ankle biters for a couple of hours they also have a field opposite with chicken, sheep, calves and pigs which the little 'uns can feed with a bag of food at 50p a pop - but well worth it for the fun wink

I am gradually working through the menu but their Scotch Eggs are my current favourite and one of those makes a meal I promise. This is a pic of one I was forced to eat earlier today smile

Nice food trailer at Tescos Cully, run by Pitmans farm from Dulford, right up by the store rhs. Good grub and reasonably priced. Nice bit of healthy competition for Kennifords..!

Marias pantry, open 7 days from 09:00 - 17:00. Just outside Bridport, Westway business park, DT6 5HR, on the B3162. Found it last weekend, cracking little place, plenty of room inside and covered seating outside, good grilled breakfasts and lighter bites for racing snakes.
