I saw your bike in Greenlane just before you got it, Nice looking machine. I had a quick go on the PR5 last year. When funds allow I could be tempted!!!

Take the kicker off, it's just something extra to rattle around. If the battery is good you'll never use the kicker, keep the battery topped up by using something like an optimate, just use it over night every few rides or after a period of storage. I don't leave mine on all the time (as a battery tender) though you can if you want too.
If the battery ever can't start the bike you can always bump start it (as long as your not on a flat muddy or gravelly lane)
But that's where it will always happen Rich. I can just imagine stalling it in the gully at Ruggadon, and the battery dies. I'd rather have a kicker than a leccy boot. At least until I am too old and feeble to use one. Yeah yeah, not long

Yes why not indeed, i doubt if any of the KTM dealers will they have no problems selling there bikes. I would ask Husky but not sure which colour they will be .

I've been in contact with the importers regarding AJP attending our event I regret to inform the masses there not attending now before anyone goes off on one I've been in discussions with there management they are a midland based company and economics aren't in there favor to start with attending our local event this is sad ! Plus members within the TRF have been less than complementary of there business awhile ago it appears there no show to a organised TRF event they have been slanted on our forums ? There reasons were due to a family bereavement for that I would like to extend apologies for our ignorance to there family loss , the AJP brand is doing swell international but as mentioned its not viable to attend our meet there will be no local support from there local supplier at this time lost

Ok, seems they do not want our business, thats fine by me will have to carry on buying my favourite brand then. Strange how they can take a trip to Ireland though !!!
If I ran this firm I wouldn't want to go to the expense of bringing some of my bikes to an event for people to ride who have no intention of buying (said this before in another discussion in this subject), especially now if they've been berated on TRF forums. I don't see the issue really, we asked, they're not coming. Why not ask another manufacturer?
I'm with hoops. Is this event likely to create any serious advertising for them, or many new bike sales? Most of us just buy used bikes anyway.
It would be nice to see one and maybe have a go. If they were already doing something close by it'd be a no brainer but to come out especially... Hmm. I'm not sure I would if it were my company. Maybe if the test generated a Trial mag review that would be an incentive? Maybe there is a TRF officer that lives close to them so could borrow a bike and do a review?
I agree most TRF'ers buy 2nd hand but myself for one would be seriously interested in a new bike at not much more of the cost of a 2nd hand one.....I'm never going to spend £6000+ on a laner but £3500 on a new one and I could be convinced.
Am very dissapointed as have looked at the AJP's a few times and would have liked to have tried one, we do have a member on this forum who has a new Ultrapassar and got it in Exeter. Personally I think they are missing a trick as I would have thought that for a company selling things built specifically for LDT's and stuff like an 250 air cooled 4t then 'we' would be right in there sights! - can't see the 'full on' competion boys wanting them and nor would commuters - but if any good they would suit what we do down to a 'T'

Not that I was going to be attending the event anyway but an AJP was what I had my eye on when I can afford it, at the moment converting the workshop in Torquay to two semi detached houses so can't do anything until they are built and one is sold.
Don't recall much slagging off on this forum (maybe other areas?) but you are bound to get some negative comments same as any manufacturer. I know Tim rode the PR5 in Spain and thought very highly of them, the trail company were going to replace them with the newer models as well so they cannot have been that bad.
Seems they would be missing out on getting their product known and recognised more so than they are now. They appear to offer good value for money built with some decent kit and ticking many of the trail bike needs and wants. Sure enough on an MX track they will get blown away by its equivelent MX bikes but for trail riding? Surely they got to be okay?
Fair point hoops ill try and ask around not sure we can count on southwest dealers attending ill make a few phone calls regarding 19th Aug and see what turns up ?
Shame I would of liked to try the air cooled pr5 .Would be like having a brand new XR250r with e start perfect ! much better than the Honda CRF250L .
It looks like they have dumped the aircooled PR5 for 2013 and opting for an LC 250 injection engine, the aircooled version no longer features on their model list, but have a new model which is a PR4 240 with air cooled which is actually 233cc but not much different in power from the 250 AC but not injected. All very confusing really.
The upside is that the new LC PR5 is injected and has more power and I think a 6 speed box but whether that extra poke is sacrificed for the low down tractable power and reliability of the air cooled lump it has replaced would be doubtful.
Must be a good reason why they have gone with LC on the new PR5, but quite why I dunno.

Umm don't think that's a good move going water cooled the the main draw to AJP was that the made good old easy maintanace air cooled powerd new bikes with good looks,suspension brakes etc . Other manufactures do high revving water cooled bikes much better than they could ever dream of producing !

The original battery in mine died when I got the bike and it let me down on short a run, first owner (and mate) use to charge it with a car charger (the plank), I still managed to bump her though but did call it a day. I was pretty down on not having a kick starter then.
I replaced the battery and bought an Optimate, which is only uses occasionally and not as a tender - that battery lasted almost 9 years!
I noticed recently that my engine was turning over slower for the first start of the day and that was my warning that the battery was getting weak, slapped a new battery in and she's strong from the off again.
I think the bad rep for battery start trail bikes (if there is one) is caused by the enduro bikes as their batteries are small and not really suitable for the job.

LOL - yeh, I know... Fate will be sat on the back on my bike waiting for the next time I'm knee deep in water or mud and stall.
You should have wired those hand warmers through a small relay off the ignition Dan, simple to do.
I suppose having a kick starter makes you care less about the battery..., thus the lack of sufficient recharging will make it weaker.
