Collecting TTRs from near Malaga

We made it to the ferry at Santander (change of plan!!!) and this is the first time I have had interweb access for a few days so sorry not to have been in touch before now.

Everything seems to have gone without a hitch so far and the Nissan Patrol and trailer load of TTRs is in the hold.

It was hard work yesterday putting in 500 miles with a very heavy load and lots of uppy downy bits!

Towards the end of the day, unbelievably, we drove through a blizzard up in the mountains with snow ploughs waiting in laybys with lights flashing!  Lots of other interesting stuff but not for now...

The bad news is that we are leaving late as the ferry was delayed on its trip over by rough seas sick.gif

Apart from being afflicted by Spanish Flu' and nearly dying walking up the ferry steps everything else seems positive biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

TTR (+14!)

PS Should be home late Tuesday night biggrin

I did the Santander crossing a few years ago. They kept postponing the crossing because of rough seas.  Eventually we boarded  5 hours later.

I wish we hadn't, once out in to the bay it was mayhem. Im no sailor, and it seems neither was anyone else.

I have never ever felt and been so ill. sick.gif

Hey Brian, hope the Bay of Biscay was kind to you ...no...doubt it was - a ferry crossing I've done once too often.

On the upside a hopped up TTR seems to be in the top two overlanders of choice and now you have the majority of spare parts the world must be your lobster? biggrin

Santander crossing

Home now but totally knackered!

The Pont-Aven was late in to Santander having been held up by bad weather and, interestingly enough, the ferry we were originally going to use from Roscoffe to Plymouth was cancelled because of rough seas.

This didn't bode well and, as we moved away from shore, the waves grew and the ship started taking a battering. We had bought some Spanish anti-seasickness pills (at least that's what we asked for in mime but they looked remarkably like birth control pills!) and had taken these before sailing so felt confident enough to have a decent meal.

After the meal we were sitting in the lounge and the boat really started moving about so we went down to our cabin and went to bed having been told that being horizontal was a good preventative. Actually trying to stay in bed was interesting as the boat seemeed to be trying hard to roll us out and occasionally there would be a big bang and the boat shook like anything as if we had just run over a fishing boat - maybe it had - we will never know.

However, we survived until morning and kept our supper down. By this time the sea had calmed and we had found our sea legs. No further problems so it was off to the cafe for a Full English wink

Were we lucky or was our game plan a good one?

The Santander-Plymouth would be a good way down to Spain avoiding the French tolls and expensive fuel... Diesel was cheap in Spain and we paid no more than a few Euros in tolls on the way down and none at all on the way back unlike on the way down through France where one toll was over 40 Euros bleh

Still got the Spanish Flu bug but hope the good old English sunshine will cure that quickly biggrinbiggrin

Sounds like the anti sea sickness "plan" was a good one.

I guess you have a load of TTR's to sort out now?  - where you going to put them all?

Glad your back safe and sound wink

Hi Peter - you may be interested in a couple of threads on  Adventure Rider forum which seem to talk up the TTR250 - see http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=473843

No room for the TTRs here at the moment so they are all going into secure storage not too far away - roof extension would be good though....  biggrin

Need to sort out pics which are on laptop - glad tomorrow will do wink

We took out a couple of new WR250Rs to ToroTrail and it wasn't long before they were out the crates and screwed together. They look real pretty in white - even nicer to ride smile

The forum is still playing up and I can't load a funny bike one so here is what 14 TTRs (5 in bits) look like on a trailer...

This is what the load looked like all tied down and sheeted over ready for the long haul home - driver Rik posing by his Patrol:
