I saw a thread on here not so long ago about waterproofing leather, particularly boots. Consensus pointed to Renapur so I bought a pot. I can vouch for its efficacy (means effectiveness - big words first thing on a morning get me) It certainly keeps leather waterproof. It also shines leather and makes it supple. It's very good on boots, gloves, allegedly it's even good on cloth (jackets) too. Martyn

Yep - Renapur is good but as JT has found, no amount of the stuff will stop water getting in through the stitching on the soles.
I use it on my work shoes and it's great and saves hassle and time/mess using normal polish.
I jetwash the boots and put them over a traffic cone to drain the water out - if you wash them this way then the boot doesn't fill with water from a stray jetwash hose!
Then spray some WD40 or similar on the buckles to stop them seizing.

Always wondered where the traffic cones went
Flexalan is also another excellent leather waterproofer, most saddlers horsy type shops sell it

Ok so I guess the Renapur stuff looks good, great for all my leather road gear too.
So for keeping the water out whats best, plastic bags, neoprene socks, Sealskin socks or gortex socks?
Are some things good for winter / too warm for summer etc?
Sealskinz socks come up to either the shin or just under the knee and are totally waterproof. My first pair lasted 5 years and are still fine but the elastic is a little loose around the top so have gone for the longer knee length ones. Wool lined and warm in winter and have never had a problem with them being too hot in summer - I wear them on every ride.
Have tried other Goretex socks but none have fitted as well as Sealskinz and some have made my feet too hot.

Oh - Gaschef.........we have 2 cones "guarding" a concealed driveway opposite so I "borrow" one of them for 10 minutes when washing the boots Highways dept take a dim view of nicking cones so if you have one make sure you keep the receipt....

Wow I ordered the Renapur stuff yesterday after reading a few of the post replies. It turned up this morning!!!! Cracking service!!!
Well as there was no riding today due to icy conditions, and its brass monkeys in the garage I Renapured everything in sight from motorcycle boots to leather jackets, belts, shoes and even the dogs leads got lick over too.
Seems like really good stuff and a little bit seems to go a very long way.
