Body Armour

During a fag break on Brownies ride the other week we had a brief talk about body armour and my lack of it. I have removeable shoulder and elbow pads in my jacket and a pocket for a back protector.
My question is should I put a back protector in and wear a chest pad ( too hot in the summer?) or buy a one piece armour vest?
I have seen Knox do a cross shirt which I am thinking of getting.

Knox - Cross Shirt
Cheers.

Armour jacket everytime (well for me anyway). Surprisingly cool too, especially the vented one's, which most are! ;o)

If you do nothing else put a back protector in NOW, not as good as body armour but it will be better than nothing

I wear the Knox Cross shirt all year round and really like it, however it won't accept a neck brace if you ever wanted to wear one (apparently)

After being T-boned by a Seat Leon doing in excess of 70 mph whilst I was exiting a lane last year, I would not be without my body armour. The state my gear was in after the accident just proved to me how vulnerable an un-protected body would be. I was very lucky not to break every bone in my body, though the ligament damage is still taking its time to be repaired.

In the summer i wear a one piece armour vest with just a light weight moto cross shirt over the top, provides good protection and i do not get to Hot.
Having seen a good friend of mine plough into a wall i would srongly recommend  wearing it.

Cheers for the advice.
Decided to go for the Knox Cross shirt under my jacket for winter and under a moto-x shirt in the summer (if we get one this year).

Before you spend the think end of £150, make sure you try the item on for comfort, because it doesn't matter how much it costs if it's uncomfortable you won't wear it, and it won't offer any protection at home in the cupboard.

Also depending on your body size this is available in chest 38"-40" & 40"-42"

Would definitely go for the armoured vest type affair. Jackets are just too hot when you're trying to get your bike up a gnarly climb or picking someone else's broken/dropped bike uphmm

I always wear a base layer under it to stop chafing and either an MX type shirt in summer or jacket in winter and never got too hot even in 45*C heat in Espana.

I feel very vulnerable if I even pop 200yds to the petrol station to top up without wearing it, so it's second nature to pack it in my kitbag now.

There are many makes and prices but as Clayton says - if it doesn't fit comfortably you'll make an excuse not to wear it with possible bad consequencesdoh

Mine is an old Wulfsport one that's had so much use over 6 years and it's still intact and all zips work. Keep thinking of changing it but that EVS one looks like the shoulders won't fit under my new jacket.......will need to try both on together.

I'm only here because I was wearing body armour...wink
I know several friends who wern't so luckyblankstare

Last set I got was from dirtbikestore.com...had it 6 years now, cost £60 then, now £75, in the wash at least once a week... (It will fold up and fit inside a washing machine..) had to replace the front zip this year but appart from that..brilliant...

It is cool enough to wear with a just race shirt in the middle of the summer and warm in the winter with just a jacket on top...
