Thought for the day

11.00 and the suns out, so I decide to go for a bimble, got the bottom of 192 098 just as the farmer was pulling a water hose across the lane, so I stopped for a chat.

Interesting tale after talking about bikes, a few weeks ago after the Exeter trial, a group of trail riders stopped at the bottom of the lane, engines running making a fair bit of noise, then they revved up spraying dirt and ****e whilst they shot up the lane

The farmer has no complaints about vehicles using the lane, he used to ride offroad so he is not anti bike, but he had just cleared up after the Exeter trial, and close to where they stopped is a sign reminding people about free range animals and children, if one of that group had hit one of his grandchildren who live in the bungalow at the bottom, well I leave the rest to your imagination

He is also concerned  as the lane is used on a constant basis by tractors and twice he has nearly had a rider impaled on the front bucket tines, as someone has hurtled up or down the lane.  So much for the 25 mph limit

I expect someone knows, but please keep the speed down there.

I normally come down the lane and slow up at the bottom because of the house and occupants (kids, dogs etc) in the house on the right.

Always have a huge respect for the locals as this is a good road and very famous one at that smile

I've always thought runs/ride outs could be managed somehow better with popular areas been given a wide berth as not to annoy local people but managing this is a big task wink

I guess its another toipic for another post but one that could help relieve some of these problems and a self imposed restriction on some areas might help our cause.

But many people will object as too why they should - look how many ride east devon now (me included)
We do have a wide area to cover in devon and i'm always glad to hear of people riding other area's like the north and also mid devon and even out to hartys area (even if there is a risk of seeing the geezer winkbiggrinbiggrin)

Respect and local knowledge - I said a lot about that in a ranting post (or 2) some time back......but I don't think the chap it was aimed at got my point hmm

This to me is why it's important that those that ride 'our' (all of ours I mean) fantastic, fabulous, precious lanes should take the time to understand, learn and research them and the local environment and neighbours - so you know when to ride them and when to avoid, which direction to ride them and why, which days to ride them and which to avoid etc etc.......it's far far more than just blasting about on them disbelief.........respect and consideration.....words rapidly dissapearing these days.....

Well Said JT, my point entirely.  Respect and Consideration in all aspects, great pity there are a few who dont, as it will screw it up for the rest of us
