The KTM (EXC250F Racing) insurance renewal has just appeared, and has nearly doubled.
Previously I had a silly quote for the 748, so added the mothballed 1986 VFR to the policy and it halved it, but I'm struggling to find any companies that will cover the KTM at all as it doesn't have an ignition key.
I'm assuming this is standard, it certainly seems so from the bumf, and it does have a steering lock, so how do others get around this issue?
Also, the MOT is due. Previously I took my 748 to "Deaf John" in Plymouth who had a realistic approach to MOTs. However the KTM is in Exeter.
Bike has a slightly undersized number plate that doesn't snap every time I drop it, and no indicators or mirrors. Is there somewhere in Exeter this wouldn't be a problem (if needed I can remove all the lights and get around it that way).
Likewise, never been asked if my 450 EXC has a key and that is on a joint policy with a 690 Duke.
Interestingly I was insuring a car yesterday and was asked how many cars we had, I told them and added that I had 2 bikes. They are apparently regarded as vehicles in use and the car policy is reduced because mileage is likely to be lower.
Therefore it appears that it pays to advise the insurer of all vehicle in use.
Of course the synic in me says it is more likely to be some cunning ploy to find out how many vehicles I have. Insurance companies are not known for giving out favours in my book.
What makes me laugh is that for the most part I just seem to change insurance broker's, the actual insurance company seems to stay the same. That is often also the case for my car/van insurance as well.
I've even had an insurance company decline to quote (through one broker) while I was still insured by that insurance company and they have already offered me a renewal. Crazy world..
As for the insurance my renewal came this week from carole (how much !!!!!!!!) nash did the usual online comparison sites got it £85 cheaper and with less excess and protected no claims and breakdown for free the moral of this story never pay the renewal
Trouble with e-bike is, points don't mean prizes with them. They didn't want to know me even with 3 measly points. Maybe I should try again, I got more now!
Good Steve, just retired and spent 6 weeks touring New Zealand in a motor home. A few chores to keep SWMBO happy then I'll be out. Hope to meet up with the Exeter/Crediton posse soon.

as DOH says, never pay the renewal price! , i always get the renewal, it has always doubled, have a ring round ( yes i know its a pain in the arse) when my insurance company ring me to say i havnt renewed yet, i tell them ive had a better quote, funnily they always seem to match it for within a fiver, job done!
the CRF250X has no ignition / lock and i have never been asked about this by insurance companys?
mot = again not indicators / brake light / mirrors / horn ,etc , just popped in to see my local guy as mine was due it first mot being a 2007 , told me to fit a bicycle horn ( battery operated) ( they dont allow the sqeecky clown type ones anymore lol) bought one on ebay with a wire attached to it with a switch on the end and put it next to the cut out button , also a legal size plate was required, so again bought one on ebay for a fiver , now MOTed ok , kev

When I bought the Husky, Carole Nash quoted £220 with Aviva, I went online with the "Meerkats" and am now insured through AQuote with, yes you guessed it, Aviva, same deal for £100 less................The mind boogles
There seem to be 2 favourites for the MOT, and as one is on my side of town I'll pay them a visit over the next couple of weekends.
As for the insurance, it might have gone up massively but it is still only £120 (including business use).
I'll phone a couple of places but I guess that I'll have to start getting used to paying more to insure my vehicles that I do to tax them (all 3 cars cost less to insure than to tax
