The Exeter Trial is on this Saturday 7th January 2012 if you want to see some interesting and varied machinery being thrown at the scenery. Simms attracts a big crowd and a good atmosphere. 9/10 bikes make it, 9/10 cars don't. Well worth a look.
Yes, an unfortunate accident where an open top car #207 rolled over, and the passenger instinctively put his arm out as it rolled. The driver seemed to escape with just a bump on the head, the passenger certainly looked like he'd broken something, but remained calm and in good spirits, before being air lifted away. Good luck to John and Alan for speedy recoveries.
Nice to see Pete clean the hill on the CRM, during an intermission, with all the pressure of a big crowd!! on video I'm sure.
I recon less than 15 cars cleaned it, with nailing the throttle to the floor being the favoured method. #160 Hillman Avenger being most spectacular. The bikes faired better, althought the 2 Honda Cubs struggled but raised a laugh.
Only a lucky few cars made the top of Simms hill and were rewarded by applause from the large crowd. One TR7 knocked his foglamp off on the step and a marshall spent some time picking up all the bits of glass. The same marshall helped the guy whose propshaft broke to get back down, and he had a busy day helping those who ended up sideways. First time I have seen some one need to be pushed down the hill. A wonderful atmosphere with such a large crowd and there were even people standing in the trees.
One very determined lady VW driver deserved to get further uphill for the effort invested. The Hunter pilot never looked like stopping and likewise the red Ford Escort was a winner from the moment he came around the bottom corner sideways with the throttle wide open.
