Adventure Riding in Europe

OK, have had a couple of trips with Torotrail and Dust Devils in Andalucia, and we are now looking at other, similar options for our next trip. We'd like to ride somewhere different, the more spectacular and exotic the better!

We looked at Taurus Trax in Turkey, but the cost (£1200+) for a short break was prohibitive.

Any suggestions for 3-4 days guided riding, not too far away but better weather than the UK has to offer? Max £800 including flights?

I know you guys have tried out various different companies around the world, so let's hear what you have to say.

Thanks,

Alex

Yep Romania but not for £800 all in.

Have you considered taking your own bike to France/Spain? £800 is more than enough for a weeks riding and a good return stock of wine. Dave Bells report in Trail/Devon NL should be enough to tempt you.

How about a UK trip to Derbyshire/North Wales/Yorkshire or are you chasing the sun as well?

Something I've been thinking about for a while is to have an adventure holiday showcase at one of the monthly meetings where those of us that have done these trips can be available to discuss them. There is a wealth of knowledge locally but not everyone know who to ask. Maybe shcedule it for October meeting.

Funny you say that Rob, I was going to mention Croatia as me and Rich worked out to trail ride per day doing 100 miles, food and camping, £12 -£15 per day, but obviously you have the cost of getting down there, which you could do for £550 return, so 3 bikes in a van, £180 each and 27 hours driving split 3 ways Finding trails is a doddle, and no-one questions where you're riding!

There's an issue with unexploded ordinance in the less touristy areas of Croatia. Minefields are said to be well signed but care should still be taken particularly if going off-piste.

Nice country though.

Cheers,

John

Very true walked into one in the mid 90's whilst serving out there, the concentration required to walk out backwards retracing your foot steps makes you sweat somewhat nonono

You don't get anywhere near the mines unless you go looking for them. The trails are pretty clear to see and follow and the mines are only near the boarder I was told, and the commonly used trails are obviously clear of mines - plenty of trails not near the boarder also.

Between Croatia & Slovenia you have got a mix of just about every possible type of lane - dusty trails & mountain switch backs, forest & grassy fields, rocky climbs, mud & sometimes snow!

Camp sites typically £4 per night,
Beer £1 litre,
Fuel £1 per litre
Food - cheap and lovely.

I quite enjoyed the blue and yellow KTMs last week wink

Flights are cheap enough (ferry crossings can be rough!) so all you need is a spare bike to store across the Channel biggrin

Cheers
