Cheers Harty - noted this comment "now i'm driving 14-43 but the bike goes too fast with it (I allready reached 105mph and it was still going...)"
The wheels came with a 38T rear and I have a 14T front, having read up now I think I may get a 13 front to try with the (new) 38 rear which would equate to a 14/41 or as nick says 15/45? (as I don't think I could get a 15T on the front anyway though I do prefer a larger front).
Am i right chaps does 13/38 = 14/41 = 15/45 or there abouts? 1 tooth on the front = 3/3.5 on the rear?

The story started a year or back when I decided to flog the HD and get something different......well SWMBO wasn't impressed as she likes going out on the tractor now and again so the idea was shelved . A month or so ago I took a shine to a Trumpet Street Triple in Bridge as it looked like a fun thing to blat about the B roads on and I quite fancy something 'fun' to ride on the tarmac but (no disrespect) bridge ain't the sort of place I'd buy a bike, it was tooooo much the HD would have to go to fund it and SWMBO would not be a happy bunny
Well this weekend I went up to Wiscombe Hill climb and watched the lads and lasses hooning up the hill on a wide range of machines including......KTM's on BIG SLICK TYRES !!!!!!
Well that was it - I had my answer, whack some super moto wheels on the Katoom, Then we keep the HD and SWMBO is happy and for minimal (ish) money the beloved Katoom becomes 3 bikes a laner, a B road 'sratcher' and if I get brave enough - a hill climber ?
Lath had a set for sale that I was kinda thinking about - but after Wiscombe I just had to get them - so picked them up on the way home that very day
We weren't sure they would fit (well lath was sure the back one would) but did 'sort of' try the front one in the bike and it looked about OK so the deal was done.
Monday night I stuck the rear in to see how it looked :-
Now got the front in - this wheel is a non KTM hub laced to a KTM rim (back is all KTM) and uses a smaller older KTM spindle (I think) it came with loads of different spacers and some 'sleeves' to insert into the bottom of the fork legs to 'downsize' to take the smaller spindle.
It all fitted fine but I have had to 'fiddle' about to get the wheel aligned and get the caliper (the wheels came with a new 320 mm disc and cliper bracket) all lined up.
So next job is to go see 'a nice man' to get one of my spacers machined down by about 5mm (and Lath its the one on the disc side that I need to do - hence my puzzled looks Sun eve as I could not work out how it would be the other side to 'push' the wheel to the right).
I found a 'temp' spacer which fits bang on so have a 'pattern' - below the long spacer needs to be 'cut back' to the length of the short one.
So once thats done next job will be to whack both wheels in, sort the chain and experiment with the sprocket sizes/gearing - so any suggestions on what size I should run would be apprectiated.
The rear tyre is good but the front will need changing soon so not having a scooby about super moto type things I would apprciate some suggestions for some super sticky rubber as well
Can't wait to get it all finished and try it but will have to wait till next week as I have to get 'dirty' this weekend and gotta get that spacer sorted.

SCRAP THE 15 ! it will be boring, and sluggish, iv got a 14-42 on my 450, im thinking about changing to a 14-45to liven it up abit more... if u want fun, with a road rideabilty you need a 14 front and between a 42 and 45 rear, iv sm'd alot of bikes as you know and all bikes, all gearing types, the best "universal" setup is no dout for me (and in my opinion) 14-45, snappy, front end happy, but doesnt top out before you reach a decent 60mph crusing speed, pushing 80-85 at screaming mode ..jyust my opinion, sure maggotman will come on and say how wrong i am or somethin but this is just my opinion after sm'ing an sx125, ec250,crf250,exc300, and now exc 450
Cheers Lath.....going to stick with the 14 front, but not sure about that 38 rear having spoken to you chaps, think I need a few more teeth on the back but not as many as the 52T on my enduro set up....
28 PSI is what I was thinking so you confirm that also.
Job done, tested this morning hell its quick gotta change that 14/38 but a nice man just rang and has a selection of chain, 44/45 T rears and a 15T front so plenty to experiment with

Dunno as speedo not sorted yet, but it feels way to higly geared (for the use I have in mind anyways) and just couldn't find a gear I was happy with.... I think I should just stick with Laths suggestion 14 44 ish

Top end mate - could hardly use top gear.....needs gearing down, so going to try a 15t on the front 1st and if that still doesn't work I have a 44T rear that I can try with the 15 or pair it with the 14 I have on now.

Dont bother with 15 on the front will make it worse! what speed you toping out in 4th cos with mine at 14-38 its revving out in 4th at 60mph
Feel I have to join in here too cos I got meself a set of SM rims for the 450.
Sprockets are 14/44 (what it came with) Seems perfect to me on the black stuff - good pick-up, front end happy (i you want) and enough top speed not to need to top it out.
Right, next SM topic - SUSPENSION! My KTM is set-up uber soft for laning, everything backed almost fully off (soft), how do people have their SM's set-up for the road? Harder obviously but how manay 'clicks' in or out for each of the settings? (please also indicate bodyweight as this will make a difference - unless you're too ashamed! )
im runnign 14 44 on my 525 and will just about hit the limiter in last gear had the same gearing on my 2004 400 but wouldent rev out in the last gears aswell
my mates runnign 13 38 on his 2000 300 ive got about 5mph top speed on him but i feel my bike could pull taller gears but 110 ish on a endro is a bit wobbly

riding yesterday with a guy on a 300 running 14-45 and he was keeping up fine, and riding without screaming the tits off it. youle find for hill climbing or the odd weekend that a 15 wont deliver the power but make it feel like a superglued slug. 14-45, end of discussion ;)

i need to stab you rong again as normal 13 38 ffs you tool he had a 14 last year but went to a 13 after the chain caught his clutch slave nd made it leak

he told me 14 45 u absolute tool, anyway a 14-45 equals out to a 13,38 roughly anyway

Been to see another nice man today and picked up some more sprockets and another chain (length was bang on BTW Clayton)....
Just been out on 14/45 and it felt pretty good so think I'll stick with that for a bit
Still not 100% happy with the front brake though it works (boy does it work) but despite much time 'shimming' the caliper off the fork leg it still rubs somewhere very slightly and I'm dammed if I can suss where/what - may just be the pads rubbing on that gert big floating disc and im not used to it but its bugging me........
why the hell you messing round with spacers nd stuf wheels should bolt straght on if thay dont somones probaly be messing round with berings etc
