Darren came around last night so I could remove his rear moussed CO2 and fit a tube and MT43.
Now I'm no tyre replacing wizz, but I'm getting ok at it, especially in the comfort of my garage. I have no special tools, just 4 levers.
This tyre was proving almost impossible to get off the rim - as you cannot easily even get the first lever in behind the rim. I tried to watch YouTube vids etc, but they all had wheels mounted in frames, most with high pressure bead breakers on. Well with much effort and after a great deal of time I eventually got there. But I wouldnt choose to do that again........... and feck knows how hard they are to put back on???
He also wants me to now take his front mousse out. I am hoping as its a front it will be a little more easier....... but that will be the last one I do........ever!!!
Wheely is going to give the front a go tonite...failng that I will take you up on your offer. I need to sell the mousses to fund sons MX graphics on his KX85.
At the moment i'm sorted for tubes n tyres..but will give you a shout when i need some
You just need the right disc in the angle grinder.
No seriously didn't find it hard, just used spoon type levers and one big feck off car one with a soft blow hammer to budge the tyre, bit of a wresting to get the slippery sucker out of the tyre and off the rim but once I got it so far it came out easy.
This technique works. I struggled a bit the first time, now its down to 20mins. If its a new mousse or a new tyre I sometimes use a big g clamp to hold the bead down in the well of the wheel.
Mousse lube is cheap - 15quid for 2.5 litre tub, will last you for ever. No idea how much KY is, but I'd guess more than that. Not supposed to get it on the beads, cos it doesnt dry and can cause the tyre to slip. Some other lube - tyre soap, windowlene, silicone spray - helps with getting them on and off. I find the hardest bit is getting the mousse out of the tyre once its off the wheel - slippery little buggers, hard to get hold of.
