Hello not the first or last ill say this what do you want to do with the bike after you have bought it and what type of rider are you a plodder or some one who is progressing in there skills or no slouch ? If a plodder then may I suggest a upgrade to the XR could be a DRZ400 E. /. WRF250 f. / KTM250f. / crf250x
If you are progressing in in skills consider KTM400 KTM450 KTM 250exc / CRF450x / wrf450f /
If your no slouch and want a bit of pepp then a 300 two stroke TM KTM. HUSQ
Personally regarding what would I buy for the south Devon lanes 250 exc ? Got one lol or TM250 T2 WR250f. CRF 250/450x
If your on a budjet then consider KDX200/220 old rvf 400/450 KTM there is a beta 350 rvf motor for sale on here ?
Wild card I'm a bit short at 5'8 so HUSQ Is out ? So for me my wild card for cheap green laner with a hard seat is BMW450X same motor as the brand new Huqs/BMW ! You get a lot of bike for the money forks a little hard so is the seat both can be corrected but since David Knight could not go fast enough on one at world championship pace the public lost faith in them but at our level there is a lot of bike there LOST
Just like to add the xcf350 I had I rode on the wet setting so u can add this to the pepp list gulp !

I didn't mention I have a ktm 300 ,I find it encourages me to ride faster than I should,It's seems to ride better the harder it's ridden I think what I need is a four stroke with the same sort of power of the XR 400 but with a equally comfortable ride for green laning

loved my crfx, plodder yes, agree with lost, wish i still had mine, did everything asked and hell of a lot of fun and more then capable of keeping up with any greenlaner, low maintenence, excellent built quality, pretty much bullet proof

Still got my CRF450X and would'nt part with it for the world its never let me down, just bought a CRM250 to go with it so I can have the best of both worlds and I bet I spend more on service intervals on the 2T. Still can't believe why so many go ginger when we all know RED is far more reliable
According to the manufacturers websites it seems red is over priced and old tech when compared to yellow. Luckily you can pick up them old CRFs' used so that keeps the price tag down.

... and I'm still riding it! Checked valves a couple of weeks ago - they were still fine. Just done pro-link bearings, as they were shot, but other than consumables (filters/tyres/chain etc), and fitting lighting kit, I've not had to do anything signifcant to it yet.
I love it too! Not a 'plodder' as far as I'm concerned, it has more than enough for me. Mine was a move from the XR4, similar to yourself, and I've never regretted it. In many ways it's easier to ride than the XR - light weight, more forgiving of the right hand, and electric start. I know the same can be said of other similar 250's from other makes.
Try out as many different bikes as you can on the lanes (not the road), and see which floats your boat.
