Direct bank transfer (BACS) Currently possible, free to you and DGTRF. Not sure if it is a good idea to put sort code and account number on a public website. Maybe just for members in members only area.
Cash to an officer either beforehand or on the day Currently possible.

Credit/Debit card over the 'phone Not really practical as mobile terminal would need to be rented and a commission charged. Can be done with a smartphone adapter on as a PAYG basis (2.75%) or manually online (3.5%). NEEDS SOMEONE TO BE ON THE END OF THE 'PHONE.
Paying on the day by credit/debit card As above but with the added complication of possible coverage difficulties for terminal/smartphone.

PayPal The most popular additional choice. Can be used by those without a PayPal account to pay by DC/CC online. Their charges are 3.4 + 20p per transaction or for a non profit org 1.4% + 20p.See below. Credit/Debit card online See above... https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/standard
STRF's Exmoor page looks like this:
which leads to this page:
which leads to this: (NOTE option to pay with CC/DC)
I'm perfectly heppy to administer the PayPal system if it is decided to add this payment option to what we already use. Minimal work would need to be done on our website as all the action happens on PayPal's site.

Charging a premium for paying on ebay via paypal is against their rules. I think their's is a good rule. I'm not prepared to administer it if we are going to charge a premium for what the majority of respondents want. What time is your train to Nuremburg?
Martin Keswick (STRF Chairman)says it is so much easier, once the event is finished I just transfer the money into our account. Somerset TRFs last event had 200 entrants, no cheques.About 150 used PayPal.Not all of them had a PayPal account just paid online using CC/DC.
STRF set up as a non-profit organisation with PayPal which means just 1.4% + 20p per transaction.A £20 event ticket purchase would therefore cost us just 48p to administer.
The easier it is for people to register and pay for an event the more people are likely to attend.

What about the tax implications of the group having income?
Does our usual turnover come close to tax threshold limits?
Probably one for the national forum as we are just a satellite group of a national organisation and we already have income. I'm not expecting 500 entries for our next event just because we may be using PayPal.

That's a loss of £72 using the event you mentioned as an example, but I guess you have to balance that against the time/effort a volunteer puts in to receive and bank payments (free).
OR if you attract 4 more riders as a result of using PayPal you have made an extra £8.
Thank you. I knew there was a subtle logical answer I just couldn't see it through a fog of negativity.
I think you meant £6.08.
