With regards to ratio, what have you got currently?
Go for steel front and back, and either an "O" ring or an "X" ring chain. Whatever make you choose make sure you can get spare split links for it easily / locally.

Well today was the best ride out ive had since owning my gasser and had a brill day under the leadership of doug. However I left the house this morning on a worn sprocket and chain which literally packed in as I pulled into my road. So I know its a personal preference but what is a good all round sprocket ratio to invest in? There seems to be quite a choice but Im not sure what a good allround combo is. Thanks NJ
Hi nick I think its a 49 rear and a 13 front. Does that sound right? and what is the difference between an o ring and x ring? Ive seen this term thrown around and still not sure what it means. lol. Cheers mate
A 13 front tends to be a bit of a tight turn for the chain, causing excess strain (wear) on the chain, so a 14T is often a good choice for laning, 49/13 = ratio of 3.78. So you would need a 52T rear to offer you the same gearing of you went for a 14T front.
Standard for mine is 13 front 50 rear, but I don't need a snappy wheelie machine so I run a 14/50 for laning to tame it down a bit.
O ring chains are sealed with grease inside the links, X ring just offers better sealing rings but at a higher cost.
Does the front wheel lift when you don't expect it, or do you have to work the engine to lift the front wheel over a log? (Or dead fox )
Cheers for that. Ill prb go for the 14 on the front then. and if i give it full gas it will lift up. i quite like that though. even when a fox is in the way
Just went and got a new chain and sprocket kit for my gasser, I found the chap at biketech in Trowbridge a top bloke for advice, he's the biggest gas gas dealer in the uk, he also does mail order if u never hear up that way.
Yeah Ill give that a check in the morning. Might have to post a pic up to show the sprocket and how us northerners like to get value for money.lol. And Ill check the bike shop prices tomoz thanks. What did you pay if you dont mind me asking? nj
