I got it a bit wrong, it's a folding camper
It is for sale though, easier to set up than a trailer tent, lady says she can set up in 15 mins doing it on her own & comes with a full awning.
If interested I can give you the ladies phone number.
we are reluctantly thinking of selling our Rapido Exportmatic folding caravan. We have really enjoyed it, but circumstances mean it isn't getting used now. It is 4 berth with kitchen and awning, and tows and stores very easily
I fitted a new cover (of my own improved design) only a few years ago.
if this is something you may be interested in, let me know and I'll post more details and some pics.
Hi Alex, we are looking at something in the morning (but the wife says she isn't very hopeful) I'm interested in finding out more if you don't mind filling in a few gaps, We didn't really think about a folding caravan tbh.
Man the trailer tent we saw this morning was a dog, looks like it had been stored for the last three years under a waterfall! Couldn't even undo any of the legs as rusted so badly (I could go on for a long time)They would have to pay me to take it away lol Checked out some of the collapsible caravans, they look pretty interesting, worth thinking about for sure.
OK, some more info now I have a proper keyboard in front of me!
The Rapido Exportmatic folding caravans were built in the 80's, but still have a committed following now.
Here is a video showing how to put one up, but this is for the smaller version. The Exportmatic is almost the same but longer, giving 2 extra rooms, and really needs 2 people to put it up although the process is pretty much the same:
Here is another clip to show the interior layout of the Exportmatic with the extra rooms:
Ours is the same as the 2nd of these. It is not perfect by any means, but it is functional and leak-proof. We have enjoyed times in hilltop sites sitting in warm, dry comfort whilst watching tents and trailer tents getting battered by the wind! The 'dining room' folds down into a full sized double bed. the 'settee' folds into a double bed or 2 singles (or bunks if you wish). In theory, you can add 2 more bunks as well, although this may not be very practical. The kitchen has 2-ring hob, grill and sink, with a pump for the water (we have an Aquaroll in the kitchen). We have a chemical loo which we put in the 4th room for 'emergencies', but otherwise this is used for clothes storage on a hanging unit. there is electrical hookup with 240v outlet and 12v lighting.
There are front and back stable doors, and most of the windows open so it is very light and airy, and suprisingly spacious inside (approx 12ft x 12ft floorspace). You can fit an awning on front and/or rear of the caravan, for additional space for bikes etc. We also tend to take a small electric oven which we leave in the awning when in use. This also fits inside the caravan when folded. We have one awning which is in useable condition, although not 'pristine'! This will also fit inside the folded caravan along with chairs, table etc. It is quite amazing what fits inside it!
There is a storage unit on the drawbar in which we transport the chemical loo, aquaroll and a 12/240v fridge which is connected and can remain in the box when on site. This is not the original aluminium box unit, but it does the job.
Although a little sceptical at first, we have had a lot of fun with this caravan, and in different circumstances would definitely want to keep it. It always makes a good talking point with the neighbours on the camp site!
If you were interested, we may well want to get rid of much of the contents as well, so you could have a 'ready to go' caravan!
