I've just come back from a week in France where there's some great trails to ride. Anyway I'm nicking this idea from Rob Drake, after he mentioned it last year..........so it's called 'Wipe Your Own Derriere'.
Basically, the trip starts in Devon and riders head to Plymouth for the Thursday evening, catch the overnight ferry to Roscoff, arriving Friday 8.00am, then riding approx 3 days in France(160 miles per day approx) staying at a campsite each night. Then return via the Cherbourg - Poole ferry, then laning back through Dorset and home. So roughly a 5 day trip.
We won't be in any big groups, but form small groups of between 2 - 4 riders, that way getting through obstacles is quicker and big groups in a foreign country is quite frowned upon by the authorities.
You can ride whatever trail/adventure bike you like 250cc or 1000cc, so getting a little group of you on the same size of bike makes sense. Also if you are on bigger trail bikes, you can always turn round as a group if a certain lane is a bit tricky.
The only thing that I will be doing on this trip, is to provide a satnav route that will be sent in gpx,csv or mmo format and dates to book your ferry. Your ferry booking, getting the route onto your satnav!! Carrying whatever kit and spares you need, what food to bring, where you get fuel from(my tank range is only 120 miles, but there's plenty of fuel stations), as well as adequate breakdown cover is down to you, hence the term 'Wipe Your Own Derriere'!!
Me and RichT4 did this type of trip with 33 of us in the Balkans last year and it works very well, as everey little group sets off when they want in the morning, stops for lunch where they want, but in the evening we all get together for a beer and a good chinwag about the days adventures.
These are a few pics of a couple of typical lanes that I did last week
