This year the West of England Motor Club's Vic Ashford Moor to Sea long distance trial is being held on the 7th of July having been moved from its traditional October slot in order to fit in better with other rounds of the national trail bike championship.
A couple of dozen sections as well as a hill climb and a special test are scattered around the 85 mile route which includes 47 lanes and sixteen bits of private land used by permission on the day of the event only. It is an opportunity to ride places we are not normally allowed and will be a spendid days riding.
The sections will be slightly less difficult than last years and a rider of average ability should have no problems footing their way through.
Here is a short video filmed whilst route finding recently on some of the private land.
Gale. Just across the other side of the valley. You can see Parkers from there. It was felt that Parkers would have been too easy because of the dry weather. The permanently wet but hard ground below the spring which provides water to the property was cleared by pushing a jcb up the hill using the shovel and the line of brambles which had sprung up over the years was grubbed out for our enjoyment. Good call. Worked well.
It was just one of several new bits never seen before this year. The hard enduro style liason between sections 24 & 25 was 'interesting', and a great deal harder than the sections.
