Manaton? The temporary ford that was created when the heavy plant was clearing the woods as it couldn't cross the small stone bridge. This was bouldered-up each side of the river to prevent people from trying to cross
The Old Manaton Road, when I started riding there was a ford crossing here next to the bridge. Then it was closed with boulders and we used the bridge.
When they carried out the forestry work they re-opened the ford crossing for the heavy machinery, but closed it, and barbed wired it when they finished the work. We couldn't resist giving it another go.
the 1st pic you put up ming is in dorset. the next pic is at the bottom of the devils staircase in wales!! mr cole deciding to wash his bike half way thru the day!
And not forgetting this drowning which resulted in a very expensive bill due to the hydraulic lock cracking piston and bending conrod . Remember not to rev your bike as it submerges
I also belong to a road bike club here in Somerset and every year we run a Spring Fords Run in April. The pics are all in the Exmoor area. They are Billbrook ford near Minehead,Allerford near Porlock and Bury ford near Dulverton. Also Robbers Bridge at Oareford. www.wetroads.co.uk is worth a look.

Went out for a good run with Grouty and a few of his possie yesterday - 2 of whom (father and son) were riding a sidecar outfit. Had a moment trying to cross this ford and getting over the blockade at the other side. Note son jumped off and kept dry. Father up to his thighs in the wet stuff
