I have finally arranged a date to collect my new Tenere, however i have also discovered that my current insurers (Hastings) will not cover a Q plate (bike is an Italian import that got put on a q plate for some reason).
Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced insurer that will insure a Q plate bike.
Was looking into an age realted plate, had a chat with the owner and it seems there is no real reason why the bike was put on a Q plate as all the frame/engine numbers match. Does anyone know if Yamaha will have the necessary information to issue me a certificate of newness or a letter confirming its age? Or is there a recognised Yamaha/Tenere owners club who could do the same?
Tried to decipher the DVLA website regards registering the bike with a age related plate, but not luck.
Can you change a bike from a q plate to an age related plate? What evidence do you have to provide?
I notice the DVLA office in Exeter is due to close end of November, ideally i'd like to get this sorted locally so will be rushing to get it to them before they close up shop.
To be honest the whole Q plate thing has got me worried, expensive insurance and unknown if i can get it put a correct plate means i could end up with a very expensive hunk of metal taking up space in my garage that i cant use for anything! Wondering if its better to just steer clear of this bike (although i'll never be able to afford one otherwise it seems).

No you will not i am afraid, i had to send my docs to swansea, as the exeter office is winding down to close, i suggest a call to Swansea who can help decipher the issue you have.

If you keep the Q plate, try Carole Nash. My old insurer would not do it, but CN said it was no problem. Have been with them for years now. My premium was actually cheaper this year !

To change a Q plate you will need to show the vehicles age, either a Yamaha dating cert, or one from an authorised club, or the original reg papers. If it wasn't declared as an import you may also have to show that the customs duty was paid, which could be a prob! Does the V5 say it was used overseas before first registration?
