Looking to buy a HotCams Stage 1 cam. Prices seem to vary from the variety of US suppliers on eBay, but what is the deal with import costs etc.? They don't seems to be available from many places in the UK.
Any recommendations for a supplier? Don't mind paying a (very) little more for a UK delivery or a local business.
I think you will find the R cam will give all that is available, low to mid, more mid etc.
The thing that will give you the benefit is linked with an X stator etc / flywheel weight.
My WRF has 2010 YZ cams in and there is absolutely no loss of anything, just more throughout, made very rideable by the extra effective flywheel weight.
The stator effect is more pronounced in the WRF and X set up because it is working against the electrical load, which effectively increases the benefit.
It will save you several pennies and I am not aware of any benefit that you might miss out on.

Thanks for the info. The situation is this:
The cam in my 2007 X is toast, with minor head damage (may not be anything to worry about to be honest). I've picked up a 2007 R head (no cam) in case I find more damage which is not yet obvious. However, the R head looks as though it may need a new valve seat. Not sure what the difference is between the R & X heads of this age (don't think there is much, if any).
So I defo need a new cam. Used R cams are not that common, and always a risk, hence thinking a new cam would be a better bet, and the Stage 1 HC sounded as though it would give what I wanted for less money than a new x or R cam. Unless you know where I can pick up a decent one for a good price?
The heavy flywheel option is interesting. I know you can pick up a heavy flywheel for around £100 or so, but are you suggesting there are separate weights you can add instead?

The flywheel and stator for X and WRF are outside, whereas MX inside, hence far more inertia to get going retain momentum etc.
The standard set up with hotter cams will always be smoother than an MX with same cams.
So a standard MX cam in an electric start motor will always be smoother, more power throughout.
Jetting might be a tad different, ideally freeish exhaust (balance noise / power), standard MX carb set up and then fine tune from there.
R cams should be more available than X, plus Honda quality.
So you dont need a heavier flywheel, your set up will be fine.
If you need an add on that does make a difference, then R&D float bowl set up with adjustable leak off jet.
Virtually gets rid of that 4T flat spot from tickover if you crack the trottle open, ie tight corners in the woods where you need that snap to lift the front, sharp climb etc

Does this float bowl have an improved accelerator pump design?
On the FCR on my bike I did a mod to the existing AP to increase the pumped capacity and pressure.
Short of fuel injection, it sorts all the issues as far as they are sortable.
My new SXF and EXCF were an absolute nightmare trying to sort the acc pump and leak off jet issues.
Nobody knew anything about it, didnt want to know etc, so had to learn stuff that I didnt want to learn!
Anyway got them just about acceptable with gradually changing leak off jet and getting to grips with "Quickshot" set up.
Think that what was what it was called, looked into it and as far as I could see they didint answer the issue, maybe improved it slightly due to different setting but basically was an expensive bit of bling.
My WRF came with the R&D floatbowl already on it, looked into it and basically was a posh set up that did what I had been trying to do but by proper adjustment.
It is expensive but the logic makes sense and it does make THE difference.
I think it probably makes things smoother if the motor is potentially a bit sharper, ie settings are more critical.
