I'd like to get my road bike licence but haven't got a clue where to start. I'm 27, been riding various motocross, enduro and some trials bikes since my early teens as I'm lucky enough to live on a farm. I'm not interested in getting a sports type bike, more along the lines of an XR400 or getting my crf250x on the road. What's the best way to get on the road? And how much will it cost? Cheers
"It is now no longer possible for a young rider to progress to an unlimited capacity/power machine until they are at least 21 following a staggered progression and having taken 3 practical motorcycle tests (one at 17, one at 19 and one at 21)"
I just passed last month. Cost me approx £700 with bike hire included. Did with a-surepass plymouth.
http://www.a-surepass.co.uk/ cheapest around, and good instructors!
Must do cbt £85.00
hazard perception test £35
Mod 1, then Mod 2 approx £565 for 4 days. Extra days approx £220
Mod 1 test last 10 mins riding around cones and emergency stop ect at 50 kmph( european laws!)
Mod 2 is a 40min road ride.
If you take the test/training on the schools 500 cc its a little cheaper, but then your restricted to a 500 cc bike. Worth taking it on a 650 then you can drive an unlimited cc on passing. I dont want a bigger bike but you never know one day...and was easier to ride the bigger one with more hp than the lower hp one. I passed with 4 days and havnt riden for 18 years. Good luck
Be aware... when you pass, your deemed to be a new driver, so if you get 6 points in 2 years, you must retake your car and bike test! Another crazy european law!
If you want any firyther advice, get in touch, cheers

Chris at Motorcycle Travel Shop Okehampton recommended.
Recently sent my son in law there for direct access. I don't think the fees were as much as quoted here and the instruction was considered first class. Choice of ER6 Kawasaki or 650SV Suzuki, plus of course 125s
