Well after spending the last 6 weeks on a boat in the North Sea I landed back home Friday night well in need of a ride!!!
so yesterday after spending brownie point time with the missus I slipped of into the garage, where my bike plus a big box of bits were waiting for me!
I fitted new chain and sprockets, new foot pegs, gear and break peddals , new grips and new stiffer rear spring. I set up thaw sag and was getting more and more excited about getting out on it! Then last job fresh oil and filters , I have only had the bike a few months and with being away only put about 12 hrs on it so this was the first time I had changed them. I had noticed that the sump plugs were badly worn/ rounded before I went away so ordered new ones and also new screeds for my return. This is where it all went pear shaped the engine sump plug I had to cut and botch to get a purchase on but eventually it freed up . The gear box plug however wasn't so bad and a ring spanner got it, but then when about 3/4 the way out it bit and pulled the thread . I tried to carefully get the new plug started but no luck! So after all that no ridding to be had gutted.
I have ordered a m17x1.5 tap to try get it started but if that doesn't work it will have to be a helicoil I suppose ! Any of you guys recommend anyone that can do this , prob a bit to much for my abilities!!!
I have managed to re tap it my self (thankfully). had to cut down the tap as it was fouling on the cross strut of the frame and then wind it in carefully with an open end spanner but got it!
But thanks for your suggestions guys appreciated !!!
There is over tight and there's over tight Doug! First time I changed the oil and didn't want to do it until I had new bungs, the old ones were so badly chewed up through over tightening! I knew that I would have to do some butchery to free them ! Oh well sorted now got my self a torque wrench everything as it should be now!
Just bear in mind that torque wrench settings are for NEW nuts and bolts and second hand ones will need more tlc.
Point noted Pete I'm trying to replace as I go, there are quite a few bits and pieces that need some looking at due to previous owner!! I'm just glad I have receipts for the more major work done on the bike !! Hopefully I'll be out this weekend and can't wait!!!
