Rabbit hutch, east devon please.

If anyones got anything lurking at the end of the garden, we could give it a home. Thanks, Jacki

Try freecycle - we got one from there last year when we needed a sick bay/detention centre for our hens.
I would offer to lend you ours but it's in a very bad state now and needs practically rebuilding from new wood, which I think we are going to do eventually, or we'll just just pick up another in better condition.

Good luck.

Hi Nick

If Jacki doesn't want it I'm sure Claire will.

We had to wedge what's left of our hutch up with house bricks (& plastic sheet to keep the water out and temporary fencing for a run) to house our latest injured hen with a broken leg.
She's all repaired now and back in with the other hens.... until the next time.
Hens are hard work!nowink

Hiw did your chook break its leg? I've kept chickens for 20 years or so  now and never had anything like that.

She's had a weak leg ever since we first got her, first couple of weeks she hurt it and didn't want to stand so we had to separate her. She's been fine since but every now & then the limp will come back. Well, last time she did it again we almost separated her again but the limp went so we thought she was ok. Then she decided to show off by jumping down from garden patio wall! She seemed fine afterwards but couldn't stand the next day.

We took her to the vet and he confirmed it was broken, it was probably fractured from the hard landing and snapped later on, and he suggested putting her down. Instead (being the softies we are) we put her in a cat cage and brought her into the house where we could look after her better. She kind of new to rest and we feed her treats & food and helped her to walk again. Eventually (after about 3 weeks) she told us she wanted to go back out so she then spent a further 2/3 weeks in our rabbit hutch with a private little run to get her strength back, then last week we put her back in the main run and she then had 2 days of trying to avoid confrontation before she was re-integrated back into the flock. Current ranking is 2nd from the bottom, which is possibly a step up as she's never been that interested in the other hens anyway.

Hens are cool animals when they aren't destroying the garden or breaking into the neighbours gardens. wink
