Cotswold Trails

I went to the Cheltenham area last weekend for a bit of trail riding. smile

It was a little different in many aspects but the cameraderie and friendliness of the trail riders is very similar to the Devon experience.

The main difference, however, was the machinery used.

The event was called the Felix Burke Memorial Cotswold Road Trial and it was run by the Cotswold Section VMCC.

This year's event was the section's 60th year. It is only open to bikes which are 25 years or older.
They ranged from a 1913 Campion 3 speed 4hp to a 1989 Honda C90 Cub 85cc.

I entered my 1926 BSA 350cc bike which normally looks like this

This is how it looked after a couple of days of Cotsold trails

Dirtiest bike I could find at the end of the Felix Burke - Martyn Weston's '26 BSA

It sure is, Doug. It's water cooled when fording and raining but the front mudguard has a rear peak which keeps most of the wetness off it. biggrin

The lighting is by acetylene gas (Carbide). hmm

The 3 gears are hand change and there is a clutch.

There is no throttle twist grip, instead I use an air lever and separate mixture lever.

It's very primitive riding but it handles reasonably well. It has 21 inch wheels which keep it remarkably upright in the slippery sludgy/ruts.

Maximum speed about 55mph on the flat - but that's only my impression because there is no speedo. no

The basket, Jacks, usually carries a total of 75 large Devon Pasties - but on this run I took spare tubes, cables, tyre levers, tools and waterproofs. aww
