Dartmoor Beginners Run Saturday 31st May + VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

Perfect trail riding weather greeted the four of us who found the start point in time. Matt, Nigel Heather and I set off after a short wait and Albert joined us at our planned lunch stop for the afternoon lanes. Four riders started and four finished when Mattyboy decided to play safe and headed home after 'fixing' a puncture with a 'get you home kit' which he took literally. The ford on 191-069 was crystal clear, but no fish in sight, and, after a moments pause for reflection before taking the plunge for some, all made it safely across.

Suitably refreshed with tea and cheeseburgers we sailed up the sometimes tricky step in the gateway onto the moor, although Alberts CO2 span on the rock where others trials tyres gripped and the grab handle below the headlight was useful. Heather was clearly delighted and cheered after clearing the gateway. Splendid scenery and clear views in all directions were enjoyed from the top of the moor, followed by another ford alongside stepping stones.

We met lots of friendy people, mountainbikers waved, the farm dog at 191-086 even got up and moved to let us pass by. All the horse riders we met were most appreciative as we gave them plenty of room by getting well over close in to the hedge to let them pass, especially these two who were amused by one of our number going a bit further than intended.

Thanks for coming folks I had fun. Video highlights to follow

Thanks Pete, really good fun ride with great company.

Made a proper repair of the tyre, it had got pinched (thought pressure was a tad low eek!) hole was the size of a match head, so temp repair worked well, but it did require 30psi to maintain pressure, as soon as I let some of the extra air out it failed to hold. But did the job, even though it was a shame not to finish with you guys.

Liked Alberts gentle dismount into the hedge, isn't that what they are there for!?

Hope to see you soon, time for a few more rides before the great Moor to Sea!

Cheers
Matt.

Thanks for great day out Pete, thoroughly enjoyable, and I loved reliving it all with the video too!...

I think the badger incident may have been down to me still being a bit giddy with my success of getting up the stone step at that point biggrin

Albert - glad to hear you found your way home!

Matt - I hope we didnt jinx you, as we were talking about getting punctures earlier on in the day?!

See you you all again on another ride out soon biggrin

I nearly did similar on the road, but on the ZZR (which weighs a tad more), went to wait for a car, and put left foot onto what turned out to be a grass covered ditch. Just caught it, but thankfully no video cameras in the area, so no one knows about it...........................
