Right I found this fella on my leaky pipe in the polly tunnel, it seems to have made (or did) he's cocoon from the leaky pipe? I have now placed some leaves over him and hope it survives. I thought there was just a bulge in the leaky pipe, was not expecting to find this!!!!

Now I know it is some sort of caterpillar, going into the chrysalis stage , but what breed is itconfuseconfuse

Look a bit like a Eyed hawk moth caterpillar but they are normally a blueish colour with spiral lines down it body.

Judging by the size it is likely to be some kind of hawk moth caterpillar. I found an elephant hawk moth in the factory where I work recently and it had similar purple colouring, about two inches long with a wingspan of about four inches.

Not a native species but one which migrates from Africa, although there are some which have settled and are breeding here apparently

Looks like a Puss Moth caterpillar.

It Changes from green to purple just before it pupates.

I don't know what the caterpillar is, but nice weed free soil, unlike my veggie patch.

I have a young green woodpecker visiting the garden. I'm sure he'd of loved a bit of that
