201-014 whilst out on this lane yesterday came across a pit 6ft long,3ft deep and a good 6ft wideand full of water, obviously dug out by someone in a digger, very dangerous,if i had come across the person responsible i would of chucked him in,im sure this needs to be looked into,as someone will be injured forsure
Well since its a bank holiday weekend nothing is going to happen quick!
I would visit the lane and try and put up some kind of warning sign, barrier, board then contact PROW with an e.mail or even followed up with a phone call again Tuesday morning
Any identifying things you can give us moe like a grid ref as to what part of the lane this has happened on East or West end in the middle of or near the disused quarry??
i got to the lane from milton abbot way,go through 2 gates beside a farm, quite along lane and exits close to main road tavistock to chilliton,2 miles from chilliton, could meet up with anyone and take them to the lane
That's bad! If deliberate and this sounds as it it was they can and should be prosecuted for damaging a road surface. Some photos would be useful evidence for when we report this to PROW. Meanwhile the overlay comment has been amended to incorporate a warning.
didnt manage to get any pictures john,i was spitting fire and didnt think,i rode lane lastyear a couple of times and it wasnt there, very interested to see what it looks like when waters gone, like i said if anyone wants to go there im happy to take anyone there
(1)A person is guilty of an offence if he intentionally and without lawful authority or reasonable cause
(a)causes anything to be on or over a road, or
(b)interferes with a motor vehicle, trailer or cycle, or
(c)interferes (directly or indirectly) with traffic equipment,
in such circumstances that it would be obvious to a reasonable person that to do so would be dangerous.
(2)In subsection (1) above dangerous refers to danger either of injury to any person while on or near a road, or of serious damage to property on or near a road; and in determining for the purposes of that subsection what would be obvious to a reasonable person in a particular case, regard shall be had not only to the circumstances of which he could be expected to be aware but also to any circumstances shown to have been within the knowledge of the accused.
You could ride around it fairly easily the last time I saw it.(It was a big hole on the right travelling up the lane) The thought had crossed my mind that the 4x4 boys might have added a "point of interest" to the lane as there is plenty of evidence of them using it since we cleared it but maybe not!!! The landowner here has historically been very anti the use of this lane so who knows? One thing for sure its deep- anyone fancy giving it a try and reporting back -
Now Now Steve if you had to put up with little horror's that where not yours for a hole six an a half hour's five days a week you too would need 13 weeks a year holiday + 5 non pupil days an have a standing order at Boot's for Prozac as well. some of what I see we should be handing them out Victoria cross

Yep, someone decided to ride through and get stuck last time we were there clearing the lane last year. Not so much water then. I don't think its been done deliberately, but could be wrong.

Was that me? I seem to ride into things I'm looking at while thinking about missing them.....
Ok, that looks deliberate to me, who is going to report this then ?
Yep, unfortunately I have to agree it looks like a 4x4 has done this damage, pisses me right off when we made the effort to clear it and this is the reward
I'll contact ROW tomorrow and see where we go from here, I'm beginning to see why some counties have car only TRO's with motorcycles allowed...
As steve pointed out there was a largish hole there when we did lane clearing. If I remember right it's quite deep at one end as thought a large tyre has spun and dug it out.
To confirm, I did contact Tim Freeman the PROW warden explaining the problem & I received a short initial reply from him. I then chased this up a few more times which got two automated replies and eventually a reply saying that he would go and inspect the lane (with his successor as he would be retiring at the end of April) and that they'd be in touch after this, I've not heard back from them although this hopefully looks like something is now going to be done to mend this old lane?
Out of interest Steve do you know what the notice is that's attached to the sign post? Hopefully it's related to the pile of rocks and scheduled repair work?

I did, but it's nothing to do with the rocks. It's a planning application for a wind turbine.

It must have been PROW as they knew of the problem.
I'll contact them tomorrow and thank them, especially as the person whose area it was has now retired so a chance to make contact with the new person in charge.
