Nasty accident for Lee can only ask where were the marshals on the approach to the dune I didn't make it up this year but a few that did all said there wasn't enough marshals that knew what they were doing around the course . wishing you a speedy recovery Lee
I dont like to get into the legal side of things, but i am sure that the organisers need to take a close look at their Risk Assessment because it is not working.
If lee or anyone else was killed that day someone would be going to jail !!!!

Thanks for all your kind comments. Im doing ok all things considered but there is no doubt that I am back at the start of the long road to recovery again.
Im just so greatfull to the spectators who put them selves in danger to potentially save my life!!!! Not sure how many more of them I could have taken.
Good to hear from you Lee and that you are on the mend, I was stunned when I realised that it was you that was involved... you are one seriously tough bugger, that is for sure
Ouch that's worryingly frightening full on footage. I imagine must have been - so very close to a, potentially long term, life changing accident and incident.
Get well soon Lee and I'm agreed you are very tough indeed.
Does anyone know if the disclaimers, for injury or death, that must be signed before participating in such an event have any basis or enforceability in English Law? My understanding is that if the injured party who signed a disclaimer could demonstrate that a duty of care had not been fulfilled they would have an opportunity under civil law to pursue the organisers of the event. It's verging toward nanny state legalities n no one will do anything nor hold an event but good marshalling, or even poor marshalling, may have prevented this occurrence the absence of any marshalling shown in the footage is just wrong.

John heal informs me the experts jumped this small dune every lap ,for the mear mortals a accident waiting to happen it seems ,to Lee I'm sorry it happened to you keep taking all the pain killers the pain management nurse offers you , to the organizers of western beach race I suspect your feeling rather uncomfortable right now .
Regarding safety procedures etc and running next years event ,somebody will be taking a very close look at the future running international seniors experts (amatures) riders in the same race ?
Kerry, that's not the point, I don't think it's the mix of abilities, if riders are down, regardless of their ability, other riders should be slowed down with a yellow flag, in my opinion, given that the landing area cannot be seen on the approach to the jump, it should be a "waved yellow flag" . That may have happened of course and the riders didn't slow down?

Exactly - anyone including the top expert riders could have a fall or mechanical and be stopped there - thats why Marshals are positioned at specific points to ensure safety - they got to look at making sure enough marshals are on duty at the right points and know what to do & riders fully briefed to watch for and obey the flags.
Im glad people can see it for what it is! A lack of trained marshals in areas that are accidents waiting to happen.
Also i have noticed that the footage is being taken of you tube and i suspect this is the work of the organizers and is nothing to do with me as some people thought. I get the feeling that wbr are trying to make it go away!!!
And still nobody has tryed to contact me or my wife to see how i am.
Following a lot of recent media attention regarding the standard of flag marshals at Motocross events in the UK, which was again highlighted at the Weston Beach Race last weekend. The ACU has already started to undertake steps to improve the Marshalling at ACU motocross events in the future.
Over the winter and leading into the start of next season the ACU Motocross Committee will be dedicating both time and resources to improving the standards. This will include introducing specialised training seminars, including incident footage to assist Marshals with assessing the level of severity of an incident while trackside and also to help improve the Marshals own safety.
In the future it is planned that Marshals under the ACU will be certificated. ACU Motocross Committee member Chris Warren said We have some excellent marshals out there, but we also have some that need further training and understandings of the role and the importance of their duties. I have gathered a lot of information and experience throughout my duties across the world championships and I am in the process of putting together a training seminar for all marshals who are as dedicated as us to improving what we do with the yellow flag.

Hmmm thanks devon dan. Interesting they are already awear that the marshals are not up to standared. But then again its not like its a big event or anything!!!!
The thing with Weston is the loose sand makes it unlike any MX event. You get people all round the course because they've bogged down, got stuck in the sand or toppled off, and with hundreds of people on the course at any point you can virtually guarantee there will be somebody somewhere on the down ramp or post dune area 90% of the time. You may feel that makes jumping dunes inherently hazardous, and you may be right. But simply flagging every dune where there's somebody in the landing area for jumpers would mean yellow flags on virtually every dune for virtually the whole race.
GWS anyhoo Lee, it looked very nasty.

Rode at Moreligh today and was well surprised to see Lee there (he'd drove the catering wagon there). If you didn't know different you'd just think he had a slight black eye. Obviously a long road of recovery and reflection -- but awesome to see him and have a good chat. Of course he remembers nothing about the incident -- but the video is a pretty hard reminder to all.

I applaud that man I cant believe after that Lee you are up and about, I have only had two broken ribs before which was painful enough but with all the other injuries you also have I had expected you to at least be at home with your feet up watching Racing or Rugby
