From what I've seen they can be difficult to load/unload bikes as the beds are so high. Also with many you can't flip the tail up when there's a bike on board which can upset plods if the number plate is obscured by the tailgate, this is mainly just pickups with crew cabs though.
Other than that they are way cooler than vans (vans other than T4's that is )
Ran a Hi Lux and a Mazda B2500 for about 10 years carting trials bikes around. Both 4x4 single cabs so space no problem. Loading was always by riding up a scaffold plank ( and hoping I stopped before I hit the cab when wet and muddy) Changed to a Primastar van 2 years ago and never regretted it as changing in a dry van was far preferable to changing by a pickup in snow or rain in January Downside to van was lack of grip in muddy fields but price worth paying.
