I've been speeding and been caught red handed doing 50mph in a 40mph limit on a glorious sunny day in Dorset about a month ago regrets no until I got a letter ? Offering a speed awareness course cost £110.00 or three points and a £110.00
so I put my name down for the course and payed up and I'm grateful to keep my license points free , the course was enlightening and at times a little condescending ,the requirments were strict license passport don't be late your forfeit and so on stand in a line and so on ,well I was a bad boy like the rest so shuffled along and sat for three hours humbled and shamed at my discretion
now having to go back to Dorset to sit this course was alittle inconvenient but hay ho ,but what was interesting was the chief officer of Doset constabulary has looked at the numbers and RTCs in rural areas inperticular and they are 50% up on other county's in comparison so he isn't happy so now he has six camera units there not speed cameras any more ,Mobil in the county of Dorset so it's the speed limit plus 10% and your nicked if IDE been doing 46mph they would let me off instead ? Huh funny thing is the County of Dorset does not have any Motorways and everybody has to get about on yes Rural roads so now you have been warned , the officers are using tractors vans cars anything? and don't forget speed limits are diff from cars lorries vans and for towing .
ps you can only attend this course once every three years now ! And shame on shame I was on the Harley it doesn't do fast
I had a speed awareness course last month. I found it very useful and interesting. I was caught speeding in Warwickshire in August but had the course in Northumberland ..Had to travel 5 hours each way from Ullapool. Nice day out in the range rover though.
Scotland doesn't do speed awareness only drink awareness
Dorset has to generate money somewhere and that is how they do it. You have been warned. When i was still in the Army stationed at Blandford during the late 90's i went to poole bike night, on the way home the Dorset Police were pulling over all motorcycles but no cars, i tackled the Policemen and asked why only bikes were getting pulled over. Guess what his answer was = 'Its the bikes turn this week and you have a small number plate that will be £60 please'.

Did a police riding course in Dorset several years ago and was told in no uncertain terms - don't speed in Dorset on a Tuesday (Poole Bike Night).
Very rarely bothered with Bike Night, but on the odd occasion I went out on a Tuesday I went out of county. Did spend an amusing half an hour sat one end of the Blandford ring road slowing bikes down coming back from Poole warning them of the copper parked at the other end waiting for them.
They generate a lot of income from the speeding fines as we all know , you only have to look at the amount of money they must of just spent on the carpark area etc at the back of Weymouth fire Stn where you go to be converted in to a Tortoise
You can elect to do these indoctrination sessions local to you.
I was caught in wales and did the course in Kingsteignton.
You do not have to go to the place you were caught.
The most interesting thing I learnt was that around 50% of the kinetic energy is stored in a vehicle moving at 10 mph and that the biggest dissapation of energy when braking is as you come to a halt ( this is why you seem to rock forward as you stop )
Its not a linear process ie slowing from 90 to 80 gets rid of a lot less energy than 20 to 10 mph does.
They use this argument to try and persuade you that if you are travelling 10 mph slower to start with, you could potentially get rid of another 50% of the forward energy of motion prior to the impact.
The effect of the brainwashing lasted a few weeks (-;
I now use relaxation moosic to calm my rage. This allows me to dream as the car in front studys the green traffic light and generally waft along a bit less hurridly.
