go for a ktm/husky/husaberg 300 stroker, easy to maintain no fuel injection and tuneable power to suit your needs.
more torque than youll ever need. pulls from low revs without that cough and stall you get from a modern 4stroke
if you've got 3k sell the yz and go for a new one. that way you know its not been messed with. finance is cheap at the mo. I borrowed 7k over 5 years with only £500 interest. obviously the bikes now worth 2 k less than I owe but hey ho! put a 3k deposit down you may even get 0%

Pretty much made my mind up on a 450 4stroke, but you got me thinking now, maybe 300 2t is the way to go.... Il look into it maybe blag a go one ....

Was reading your post for a ride out Hampshire way.. Once I get something sorted will hit you up smokinrider.. Sort of know the area as lived in Dorset most of my life...

Like you will have to organise around my road racing , season is almost here

lots I know are ditching the 4 strokes and going 300.
just look at the entry list of the romaniacs or any extreme endure pretty much all 300's its not about the zing but the grunt, they pull like a train, 3 options for powervalve spring, I use the mid or soft spring so power doesn't come in too fierce.

a few examples of hill climbing.

I know not specifically trial bike related but I had the ktm950 adventure (carbed) model and replaced it with the 990 which is injection, I much preferred the smooth throttle control you could get with the 950, particularly when off road. Slightest jolt on the 990 throttle and it's whooooaaah...
Have a program cable to try a different ignition map but I'm not too hopeful of getting rid of the off/on feel associated with injection tbh.

No problem.

300 2 stroke is the route I've gone. Have a look at Beta, good reviews and the new models are oil injected.
