1:50 will be far cheaper and has been all ive needed
1:25 is more for walking i believe and probably has more detail then you will appreciate at trail riding pace, the size of the map downloads might also be an issue at 1:25
i guess it is a case of which you prefer the look or level of detail of. I can see the benefit of having more detail but have never had an issue at 1:50, having said that ive only used 1:25 in paper form so maybe im missing out. Admitedly cost also had a influence on my choice of buying 1:50 maps, i think 1:25 is something like 3 times the cost for a given area and takes up much more space on your phone
perhaps buy some credit and purchase a bit of both for a given area you ride often, and compare them side by side before you splash out?
You might find the 1:50's are better for looking at a wider area and navigating between lanes, with 1:25 being better for those hard to find lane entrances or clearer detail of the exact route a lane follows

I use 1 to 50 and got devon and Cornwall for about £15.. yep occasionally more detail could be good occasionally but while navigating while riding 50 is fine.
1:50k are OK for general use such as planning a run and may be all you need.
1:25k, however, provide so much more detail such as field boundaries and can place you exactly thereby avoiding some of those unpleasant 'get orf moi laand' confrontations.
