I've had two Discos (300Tdis) and the fuel systems are quite simple. Assuming the IP hasn't gone bang then I'd check the fuel filter (especially if using veg oil) and then run a seperate 12v feed to the stop solenoid as than can be isolated by both a simple blown fuse blown or a slightly more complicated, but seemingly common, immobiliser 'spider' failure for which a bypass plug is available.
Thanks Nige, where abouts are you ? i am waiting to speak to a mate who is away over easter who hopefully will be able to help repair etc, so once i have spoken to him i might take you up on the offer.

Hi John,
Depending on the outcome of the conversion with my mate Pete, i might ask you nicely if you would tow me to a local garage please from Tuesday onwards.

TD5 disco its most likely the fuel pump, mounted in the top of the tank, pig of a job to get at. There are two types of replacement pump Chinese pattern unit at £60 to £80 or OEM unit at £250 Do not use the cheap unit they do not last any time at all, and the money you think you save just pays for the labour charge of fitting the next one.
The other thing that causes problems is the injector wiring loom in the head if you have any suspicion this is faulty replace it, repairs are not feasible, and they are not very expensive about £25

That why I was asking - what do I have that will tow your Disco?
Thanks john but its a TD5 auto, the pump started to sound noisy then the noise stopped as did the engine !!!
Ah TD5 - that does make a difference! A smoother and more poweful engine it's true but the fly-by-wire and more sophisticated electronics did make them less repairable by the roadside with nothing but a lump hammer and hair grip
IIRC even after the introduction of the Td5 the military and third world countries still had the option of the simpler 300Tdi for just that reason.
Have done the manual purge this morning having done some consultation and still will not start, so with the aid of friends here and elsewhere its off to the menders !!

TD5 electronics etc are a F*******g nightmare.
IMHO, lovely to drive but a heap of s**t.
Why do I know, because I sold my beloved Patrol of 15 years and bought a TD5 with a few "simple" problems!!!
Ive now nearly got through all the problems, to be honest, I think it will be pleasant to use, but it has been a months nightmare.
Ive had to sort practically all TD5 issues.
Ive spent hours Googling etc etc.
Anyway, on a more positive note, I have Hawkeye, so if you get stuck, pop over.
Other than very obvious things, Diagnostic kit is essential - trust me, I know.
Pump in tank is relatively easy, sounds like the problem.
Pop strip across rear of carpet, 6 screws, carpet section in middle can be folded back, expose cover, 6 screws. Pump is the whole white unit looking at you, disconnect the obvious, keep clean. Pump unscrews, large coarse plastic thread, quite tight initially.
There is no "old fashioned" way of bleeding, but the system (Google forums) does work, just doesnt feel right.
If you change filter, you must fill with diesel, prior to fitting, otherwise you will be on it for hours.
If you clean off around filter (Who in the right mind put it where it is!!!), it can be seen which is in and out, if you need to check pump.
When you disconnect pump, be careful of pipes, they are easy to break (No I didnt)
Blow connections out, they arent obvious how the connection works, but clean and then fairly straightforward.
In the nicest possible way - No I dont want to do it, but I can advise if you get stuck or quick plug in with Hawkeye.
Best of luck
