Just picked up my new Beta, been on one run on a particularly wet small woodland track but the tyres seemed like they just didn't want to grip!
still got the tyres she came with and to be fair i didn't even check the pressures in my excitement to get riding so there is some tinkering to be done, just wanted to see what other Beta owners thought of the standard issue rubber? the front seemed particularly skittish.
Hi, Ive bought several new bikes for racing over the years.
Stating the obvious, all the bike needs is running in.
Suspension in particular. All forks and shocks when new suffer from far higher "Stiction", as it is called. When you first try to push front up and down, it apparently sticks - due to this stiction.
The part of the suspension that you feel when trail riding or roots and small bumps is particularly affected in this manner.
Hence ride the bike over "Bumpy Off Road" type going, gently but a few hours, as per the engine etc, rough lanes will be fine.
Just riding it down the road might be OK for engine etc but useless for the suspension.
Once you have completed this stage, then, and only then, set the bike up exactly as the manufacturer has designed.
ie sag, oil levels in forks, chain tension, tyre pressures, air in forks, spoke tension etc.
That is your start point. After this you might want to tweak some of the variables, generally only by a fraction either way.
Beta RR is a really good bike, you wont be disappointed but a couple of rides and the above will sort it.

Thanks for that, what oils would you recommen? I generally stick to whatever the manufacturer recommends but can't find anywhere that sells all the liqui molly stuff! also do I go fully synthetic or semi on the 2 stroke oil?
Edmonson Racing should help.
I think it is run by Paul?
Personally, with all my KTM 2Ts over the years, Ive used TQF for g/box, many discussions on this and other forums, but speak to Edmonson etc.
Ive never had a problem but Beta might have some material / whatever within the box that would make this unsuitable, it is certainly the cheapest option by miles.
I never compromise on 2T added oil to petrol, fully synthetic top of range. I dont think there will be any difference in quality for top brands.
Do all the above quietly and focused and it will drop into place.
