Widecombe 191-084

Looks like more work has been done to the lane at Widecome. This time at the far end (away from Widecombe). Pics found on FBFB_IMG_1483048164691.jpgFB_IMG_1483048143601.jpg

Saw a couple of diggers working there the other day. Can't complain but it seems a shame to repair such interesting technical lanes. The new gate is welcome though and they made quite a good job of the step at the other end of the road. I hope they make a better job of the water bars than last time as they only lasted a few years before deep water run off ruts started appearing. I recall a badger lurking therein caught Wacky out one day.

From the Widdicombe end after the gate ,

The route over the moor has some deep ruts in places.

Care needed

Your bloody right Pete, it twas a Brownie size Badger and not very forgiving at that, stopped me dead and flung me to the ground instantly biggrin

Shame about the road is it full width all the way through then? why do they have to put a gate on a road no two at that??

thanks for the update

Maybe we could do some work with DNP about the ruts?

Would be a good bit of PR, shall I ask them if they would like some help repairing the road? I know it makes it less fun, but better than a TRO.

Steve

The gates been there a long time,to keep live stock off the Tarmac . The road is very narrow at next gateway approaching the moorland, too large rocks are staggered either side of road, tried to get my sj 410 though many years ago. The farmer my have paid for this work as parks have done no maintenance on there green roads that I've seen for a few years now presume there budget has been cut.

mark.

TRO with exemption for motorcyclists would seem entirely sensible and reasonable looking at those ruts(following repair).

To be honest i don't think those ruts were caused by 4x4s, from memory they were quite narrow tracked and seemed more like rain wash-off and motorcycle traffic.

Pease, please do not take any action repair the ruts or encourage DNPA/DCC, they are the best part of the track and very rideable. The erosion has mainly been caused by rainfall running along them with expected effects.

Hikers and horses have ample space to either side of the track so they should be at no disadvantage unless they choose to be.
