Motorcycle Parking in Beer Part 6

After a lot of discussion re the Bike Parking situation in Beer,  EDDC has finally seen some sense and effectively as of now, bikes can park in the little car park at the bottom of Beer Street by the Anchor, provided a ticket is purchased and placed on "EACH" bike.   So at least bikes can now be parked in a more secure area for a FEE

Parking of bikes on the pavement is still not allowed, or you can park free of charge on the east side of the  road from the Dolphin Hotel towards the sea, until you hit the yellow lines

Free parking for bikes is still available  in the main council carpark behind the Dolphin hotel, but beware there have been a lot of thefts and damage to bikes parked there.

Some of us have worked hard to get a safe place to park bikes in Beer, and we continue to discuss matters with the parish council and EDDC

Many thanks to Jilly Elston  of Jurassic Coast Bikers for her continuing hard work in this matter,  based as she is on the Isle of Wight, and to the concerned locals  and Beer Parish council

Its a great pity that very little if any interaction from the DTRF or its large membership was received by the authorities concerning this matter, as usual plenty of internet warriors and whingers but very few action takers

A FEW of us will continue to work towards a better settlement but until then, make sure you pay if you park in the small car park, the last thing we want to do is give EDDC an excuse to ban bikes again.

SO ONCE AGAIN A TICKET IS NEEDED FOR EACH BIKE PARKED IN THE SMALL CAR PARK  NO EXCEPTIONS

Take a photo of the ticket on your bike so if some numpty takes it & puts it in their car windscreen (so parking for free) you at least have an argument against a fine.

Good idea but I'd also be inclined to clearly write on it something like "BOUGHT FOR MOTORCYCLE" with, if space permits, your registration number to further act as a deterrent.

Of course, although I say '"be inclined to..." I'd almost certainly 'be inclined' to go somewhere I was made to feel welcome, somewhere not daft enough to impose parking restrictions or fees on motorcycles. A mate and I were touring Wales year before last and stopped in Aberystwyth but, when we saw the car park near the harbour wanted to not only charge motorcycles but charge at the car rate, we took our holiday money and spent it in another town.

The businesses and the parish council in Beer have always welcomed bikes,  The restrictions on motorcycle parking were placed by East Devon Council who overruled locals.   Its a great pity that a Devon based motorcycling group could not bother to say anything about the situation, and it was left to a few locals  and a lady from the Isle of wight to try to reason with the council.  Still as DTRF could not be bothered or arsed to do anything  maybe I cant be arsed to rejoin this year,

I don't think there is anything wrong with charging for bikes unless you think it's wrong charging for cars. But ... it should be half the price of a car and they need to have a system to deal with the prospect of stolen tickets. Easy with APNR technology. If they can't afford that (it's probably cheaper as well if you reduce headcount) then perhaps they should give the comparitively small number of bikes a free area.

There is a free area for parking bikes in the main car park but not very secure or safe,  We used to park on the pavement but EDDC stopped this and also stopped bikes from using the small car park.   At least now we have a relatively secure area to park but at a cost.   If however the internet warriors and whingers had got off their collective arses and lobbied the council, instead of leaving it to a few local bikers who already have somewhere to park, or a lady biker from the isle of wight, things may have been a bit different.

I do believe that you can get a ticket via your mobile with your reg no, so know one can steal it.

Next time someone else can try to help, as I am not in any mood given the indifference and negative comments shown to do any more
