Riding and rider training opportunity at Combe Sydenham - 20/21 Apr

My son is Training Officer for the RAF Enduro Team, he is organising a training event at Combe Sydenham Country Park (the same venue as the recent STRF Forest Ride Day) on the dates shown above.

In addition to RAF riders, he has agreed to open up the event to local (Somerset/Devon) TRF members. Training will be carried out by RAF team instructors on both days and STRF rider Anthony Milliar will also be guesting as an instructor on Thurs only.

The idea is to teach specific skills - such as hill-climbs, log crossings etc - not to teach people how to ride faster (although it will!)

If you are already capable of riding Hard Enduros at Expert level or above, then the instruction probably won't benefit you. If not, then there will definitely be something in it for you.

There are places available for riders on both days but Fri is a lot less booked so would be preferable.

The cost of instruction is £20 if paid in advance, £30 on the day.

Additionally, if you just wish to ride Combe Sydenham (an outstanding venue), that option is available at £13/day in advance or £20 on the day.

Important additional info: Trials rear tyre required

Meet at Combe Sydenham parking area (TA4 4JG) at 9:30 to start riding for 10:00

If you wish to book please post on this thread, I will PM you with payment instructions.

Cheers

Col

FURTHER EDIT: TRAINING FOR THE FRI IS NOW FULL. RESPONSE HAS BEEN GREAT,THANK YOU.

PLACES ARE STILL AVAILABLE FOR TRAINING ON THE THURS AND FOR RIDE-ONLY ON BOTH DAYS

Hi Rod,

I've sent you a more detailed PM but, for anyone else who is wondering the general idea is that:

training will be over the whole day, but will not BE the whole day - no-one can take that intensity of instruction. It will be interspersed with time to practice what you have been taught and some general riding time.

Col

Hi Col

I am interested in the Saturday how many places do you have left? I'm away on holiday at the moment and will be back in 10 days so will get in touch again then.

Cheers Nick

I can decipher what you meant there Ray wink.gif
Non-legal bikes are not a problem, the whole event is on private land.

Top, top day. anyone going will not be dissapointed, and bound to learn something. I attempted stuff today i would have thought crazy to try before, and with the skills taught it was great fun. Good luck with the mega hill climbs to all going tomorrow.
ps. If anyone is better than cee-b's son then they are a god.

I wish i had done this 3 years ago, would have saved a shed load of paddling and bike picking up
It fells strange but makes sense, especially when you nail something new like large logs and stupid high banks.

It was great to ride with you again Craig, I'm pleased you had a good time and found it worthwhile.

Thanks a lot for the positive feedback, I'll pass it on to Dave (my son)

Cheers

Evening,

Seem to have missed placed my air filter cover!!!!

If anyone going tomorrow has a KTM 450exc 2014/5 air filter cover i could borrow it would be greatly appreciated..

Is it still possible to ride without the cover or is it not worth taking the risk?

Hi Rod,

it is not too dusty, so not a huge issue.

However, I have a roll of 'speed tape' - it is absolutely magical stuff that I used to use to repair various bits of aircraft; it'll be fine to bodge an air filter cover for a KaTooM. I'll bring it with me tomorrow and we'll sort you out.

No "offical" tuition but plenty of encouragement.  Had a great day out.  What a place!

Thanks to Col and all envolved.

Knackered and very content,

Thanks Colin that was a top day!!!

Antony was really helpful and even though what he said sounded like the talk of a crazy man I have to say he was right. Now I need to find some logs and hill climbs to go run the bike up!! We even tried a vertical bank which was nice!!!!

Thanks again and if you ever do another one I'll defo be there and would recommend anyone to also give it ago.

Sam

Glad you enjoyed it Tim. To put this comment in context (for anyone else reading) Tim was there to ride only, not for instruction.
