My Daughter found this in our garden and would be thrilled it it could be identified . . but I don't have a clue!
Judging by the piece we have, it would be about 10-12 inches in diameter - if it is a full cog, might be part of a back 'n' forth mechanism rather than a round 'n' round?
It's a whopping 1 inch thick and teeth are pretty substantial, as you can see.
House was probably built on ex farm land, as there is a farm about 300 yards away.
Any ideas this sparks as to what it may be from gratefully received, thanks!
p.s. I think it's too old to be from a KTM, although it is broken so you never know . . .
Ta JT, reckon that's spot on, you can see the bit of broken arm that is angled the same, plus my kitchen has an Aga/Rayburn sized recess with a former chimney above, thanks, you may have inspired a future archeologist (?!) in my daughter, cheers!
