Strange Cog

My Daughter found this in our garden and would be thrilled it it could be identified . . but I don't have a clue!

Judging by the piece we have, it would be about 10-12 inches in diameter - if it is a full cog, might be part of a back 'n' forth mechanism rather than a round 'n' round?

It's a whopping 1 inch thick and teeth are pretty substantial, as you can see.

House was probably built on ex farm land, as there is a farm about 300 yards away.

Any ideas this sparks as to what it may be from gratefully received, thanks!

p.s. I think it's too old to be from a KTM, although it is broken so you never know . . . biggrin

Out of the bottom of an old Rayburn or Aga - used to riddle the ash out, they disintegrate over time and are replaced.

Ta JT, reckon that's spot on, you can see the bit of broken arm that is angled the same, plus my kitchen has an Aga/Rayburn sized recess with a former chimney above, thanks, you may have inspired a future archeologist (?!) in my daughter, cheers!
