Trip to Devon

Hi all,

new on here so hope I've got the right section.

A group of us from Oxford TRF are planning a weekend's trail riding in your lovely county

We're thinking end of November.

We have a couple of tracks from some Oxford members who did the same earlier in the year.

These tracks start at South Molton, one goes to Ilfracombe and back, the other to Lynmouth and back.

We're happy to have a crack at these with advice from DTRF or happy to be guided round if that works.

We're looking for some help with these questions please:

1) Is The Coaching Inn at South Molton still recommended for accommodation?

2) Are there any recent TROs or lane blockages we should be aware of?

3) Are there more interesting routes we should consider?  I can post more details/GPX of the routes we have.

4) Anything else we need to be aware of, e.g good fuel stops, good lunch stops, sensitive areas that might be legal but you'd rather we avoided them.

Needles to say if anyone wants help/guiding around our patch we're more than happy to help

cheers

axa

I'm a long way from South Molton but if you get stuck I can give you a run round South Devon.  Depends on dates really, how many of you? Just let me know if I can help

cheers Trevor

theres plenty of places to stay wherever you go, we had a group stay at the race course in Newton Abbot, I might be biased but some of the best routes are in south Devon

I'm not too far away from where you are staying, it would be helpful to know how many of you there are?

Many thanks for your replies.  We have 4 confirmed but could be 9 depending on how certain wives are feeling

Happy to go with 6 including me but 9 is a bit intimidating, I think, if you meet someone in a lane.

Axa, if it's any help I can lead runs out on the weekend of the 17th & 18th Nov but not the following weekend the 24th & 25th.

If your accommodation is not fixed, perhaps an alternative might be of interest? From South Molton, I'm about 12 miles south/west near Chulmleigh town that has pubs, accommodation etc. I have a secure (alarm CCTV etc) workshop where the bikes can safely be parked overnight and can do runs in different directions on alternate days with a good run down & back onto to Dartmoor and a run-up to the some of the technical lanes in North Devon.

As Trevor has said, no more than 6, otherwise two smaller groups is would be better.

Cheers Rob, would be good to get out again smile

Hi John,

many thanks for your offer.  We can't make 17/18 unfortunately.  If we do end up being 9 then we'll split into two groups.

Any top-tips on where to get petrol when riding lanes between South Molton and Ilfracombe/Lynmouth please?

cheers

axa

Hi axa, not a problem, if you do another trip down the offer is still there.

Cheers, John
