Sad Times DR350

Took my DR into our local garage as it was running a bit on the rough side.

Just had a phone call to let me know the problems and the price of the parts.

It needs the following and the parts bill alone is about £750:

Camshaft

Timing Chain

inlet Rocker

Exhaust Rocker

79.5 Piston Kit

Head and Base Gasket

Large Clutch Case Gasket

Does anyone know of anywhere which supplies DR parts which may be able to reduce the bill a bit? Or that does secondhand Suzuki parts?

Sad to say she may not get repaired at that price.

Wemoto, Fowlers, or import from the US.
You could try beta dealers same engine in the alp4.0 www.wemoto.com/bikes/suzuki/dr_350_set/96/picture/gasket_set_-_full_-_pattern

sorry to hear about your dr Dom

i would rebuild with used parts personally, unfortunately oil starvation leading to the demise of the non bearing camshaft is the no1 killer of dr350s so top ends arent that plentiful meaning you may need to wait a while, a whole used engine may be simpler

if its any help dr350 topends are shared with the suzuki goose, beta alp 4.0 and most dr250s, elec start bikes have auto decomp on the camshaft but a whole e start head will work fine on a kick bike, but not the other way around

ask away if you have any questions about this stuff

used parts i get from ebay, new i get from fowlers or cmsnl

Was the oil pressure tested?
Was it an oil filter issue?

Basically that looks like a list of items damaged but not a fix for the cause.

I'd buy a replacement bike and either wait for a used engine to appear or part out yours as spares.
Could even buy another 350 and use yours as a spares bike, or buy a poor condition used bike and make one good one and sell off the leftovers.

Go here to cross ref parts, this site has been very useful over the years you might even find all the parts you need.

the incompatible dr250 is a double overhead cam motor, the model Jeff linked

that cam looks right at a glance but check parts no.s as Doug says, and remember the auto decomp cam is needed on an elec start

How can I tell if the one in the eBay dale is an auto decomp cam?

The image you linked would be the manual decomp cam, i belive the auto decomp was only used on bikes after 1993

this is a manual decomp cam:

and an auto decomp cam (from an engine that has similar issues):

For your purposes though, i would guess that both the camshaft, the rockers and the aluminium journals the camshaft rests on will all be damaged and need replacing, if you also need a new piston i would advise you get a cylinder and head all together from the same engine. It will save you a lot of work, the need for specialist tools and should be fairly simple to bolt together in one afternoon, it will probably be a lot cheaper and as its from the same engine you will know it all fits together.

Thank you.

Going to review the damage with a knowledgeable mate on Thursday then collect the bike and park it up whilst hunting the parts.

I went and saw the bike yesterday afternoon amongst other things a friend and i were interested in...
in the airbox, the cover was missing, there is or was a mouse nest in the foam filter, leaves protruding out of it..
He wont or didnt want to budge on any prices that are advertised on the vehicles..
Mike..

I was just double checking this and it appears i was misstaken, judging by the part # it looks like none of the 250 topend will work on a 350, sorry for the confusion no

Also..

Suzuki UK seem to be on a mission with respect to parts so "we" have started buying ours from a store in Japan with a considerable saving.
