Registering a bike for the first time..

Firstly, what a ball ache.

I've bought a Champions Edition 530, which is a 2010 bike, that needs registering. It came with a reg number, but it was never assigned to the bike, so I am in the process of getting it all sorted.

I have had the bike MoT'd on the frame number, and am getting the NOVA done, but need a copy of the original invoice to show the VAT has been paid... KTM UK are a shower of $hite, and want a £100 postal order just to send me the declaration of conformity ( to avoid a Q plate)!

Any help or advice on how to progress would be greatly appreciated.

Is it a UK bike?, with VAT already paid? or an imported one, with no UK VAT paid?  The 'came with a registration number, but it was never assigned' bit has confused me.

UK bike, from a dealer, so I assume VAT paid. Reg number was given at time of purchase, but never actuallty assigned to the bike, think the owner may have just made a plate up for road use... Reg number is not recognised by DVLA.

Cheers, have emailed KTM for more info, interestingly they will only accept cash or postal order for Declaration of Conformity...

It will always be a pain if you dont have the paperwork, the .gov web site explains it pretty well.

When I registered the Husky Auto I used David at DVLA Advice. Great guy, all done in 14 days with a reg number. The cost was about £100 all in.

I have read similar posts about ktm and the £100 fee, these are from people trying to have their bike registered in another country.

Well I spoke with the original suppling dealer, and as I thought, he wont send me proof due to personal data sharing issues...

Back to HMRC now and will see what they recommend.

I agree, they can show the invoice and tax paid, with all personal information deleted.

So, bike is a 2010 model, but made according to the frame number, made on Dec 3rd 2008, so I get a 58 plate...
