5 Bloke's & on the TeT..

2 Ktm 690s

2 Husky 701s

Bmw Gs... ( Bog standard one )

We had a shake down run & a hello to each other weeks ago,

Run from Chard to Beer & back,

Beemer rider did his self proud only trashed the rear brake on the second lane.. So no rear brake pedal working, good job the front lever distributes between the front/rear.. Only one lane he didn't do, sticky out bits wouldn't fit.. 20190419_110420.jpg

Thursday, meet near Bridgwater, off roading as much as possible to join the TeT route already planned.

Route planned by a routing guru...Not me..

Day 1..= 163 mls. Stopping Nr Stoud pub B&B booked,

Day 2..= 175 Mls. Stopping Near Neath..

Day 3..= 161 Mls. Including the Strata Florida. Aberystwyth B&B

Then home 200ish Mls..

More photo's to follow

Holiday Inn Neath tonight,
The lanes are ok, some challening but the Lime line lane was a b#s#erd, had all knackered hauling the bikes up.. In particular order..

Thanks for the story and photo's, well done to the bmw rider as I certainly wouldn't fancy riding that beast around some of those lanes.

Had the misfortune of trying to help turn one around on the taffy d 'hill climb' and they are quite some weight (and expensive to repair smile )

The gs certainly is,
First time i think we had to help him . It goes where ever we go...
But we had to manhandle all the other bike's up it aswell...

Well another interesting day. Not long into the lanes and a 701 has a slow tumble, bars out of alignment and the rubber inserts on the handle bar bolt clamp can be seen, so its off and a strip out the forks too get to a nut underneath, all sorted in an hour,
A slight confrontation with a farmer, who said you aint going up that lane, but diplomacy won and we did..
The had a few problems, dug a hole and got stuck, then 5 mins later it beached it self, more grunting going on...We did the Strata florida, not as i imagined and definitely nothing like a u tube video, easier and mot much water if u call a couple of feet in the puddles...
It's big bike friendly ish, if there's more than one of you, beemer ride is built like an ox and just lifts it up is he bins it....

Sunny afternoon in Aberystwyth.20190518_180700.jpg20190518_162509.jpg20190518_160913.jpg20190518_155321.jpg20190518_154421.jpg20190518_152610.jpg20190518_155306.jpg20190518_094745.jpg20190518_090343.jpg

20190519_112351.jpgWE PULLED..

He was amongst a load of road bike's going the opposite way..

I was leading, then spotted the Led head lights suddenly behind us, we were keeping to a steady 55, we slowed up for a 40 sign,

He got past 2,then another, (that's 3 passed 2 to go), he's doing good... He passed Gary & i, lights on pulled us over, parked on grass verge,

I said hello,

His reply, Where's your mates too

I looked behind me...

S##t... There's just us 3... LoL..

What did you get pulled for? Was it the old classic Wales Police offence of 'suspicion of riding a dirt bike'?

Impressed that you got those big bikes up Lime Kiln Lane Mike.
Even with small bikes its usually teamwork to get up that steep section of rocksteps.
And you dont want to drop into that deep narrow slot further up where its soft clay soil. I once stalled a kick start only bike in that slot and had to reverse it quite a way back along the slot to be able to swing the kick start .......

Strata Florida is only challenging when its been raining and the water levels are up or you get carried away, ride too fast and get compression punctures.
It looks like the water was quite low when you rode through. Its a bloody fantastic trail though.

Thanks for taking the pics and sharing.

We got pulled, partly for dirt bike riding look,
Was impressed were came along way all on trails. but small number plates was his main concern, but understood why they were small plates as we fall off?? They break.
Helmet,
just pointing out about the need for good stuff, not Chinese copy's, and about tinted visors, we didn't have any,

All in all a very polite traffic officer, who understood about trail riding.

Haa,
Lime Kiln, the pictures just don't portray how f##king hard it is to manhandle 1 bike, let alone 5 up it.
I can't think of anywhere in Devon i can compare it too..

Strata Florida,

Twas mentioned by the others who had done it before,

That they had never seen it so low..

Strata Florida !

in that bucket (-;

got to make sure any vent pipes are above water level as every time you dunk the engine, the internal air cools down and shrinks a bit .........

The engine got a cold shock when it stalled,we think it sucked the water in through the rocker gaskets,
as the airbix is quite high on them.

In Conclusion.

4 day trip
i travelled 730 Mls.
60.83 Mls to the gallon overall..

Problems..bikes overall

Only 1 bike never had a problem a 701..
1 puncture,..new front tyre (split)...4 (I think )..chinese mirrors lost..sump guards. 1repaired.. 1 lost...My Acka tried to spit the rear cone off ,..1 slow tumble resulting in a strip down and forks out to square the front up..leaking fuel pipe..oil change..bmw has numerous dents..
Probably other stuff.

We stayed in ..pub...Holiday inn..Bike friendly B&B..all booked in advance..
Minimal luggage,10 ltr Kiega bag, small back pac..

bikes.
690..& 701s were plenty big enough.Bmw not so much but he was an expert rider...it was a bog standard road bike also...!!!

loved it..

Very entertaining - thanks Mike!

PS The Long Way Round has gorra a lot to answer for with those behemoth Beemers!

PPS Charlie and Ewan are going to be at it again with "Long Way Up"!  Will KTM try and get them on their bikes this time?  See here
